No matter how I have received a product, whether it has been purchased with my own money, gifted by a brand, been subsidized by a brand, won, gifted by friends/family, or purchased with a gift voucher, my approach is always the same -- honesty, integrity, and highlighting both the good and the bad. You can find more information on Disclosures and Privacy here.

Sustainability isn't just about switching to bamboo straws and carrying a reusable bottle - it's also important to consider the ingredients (and packaging!) of your daily beauty routine too!  You can choose brands that uses truly biodegradable materials, are conscious of their environmental impact, and create haircare, bodycare, and treatments that are kind to both skin and planet, and in doing so you help make change.

I share the best of the best of green beauty here on The ecoLogical to make these swaps easier for you lovelies, but also because I think that a love for 'clean' beauty can lead to a greater appreciation for the natural world.  The earth provides so many magical resources, and when you start to use these in a beauty ritual you can't help but develop a new respect for the raw ingredients within the formulas.

Back before I started my greener living journey, I didn't use any skincare products other than the occasional face wash.  This is because everything seemed to lead to breakouts or irritation, and I grew increasingly frustrated with the uphill battle I was experiencing.  But when I switched to more ethical and eco friendly creations, I noticed an immediate difference.  My skin was soothed, and I actually was able to see a positive difference.

However, moisturizers continued to be a struggle as I couldn't seem to find one that was light enough for my congestion prone skin but nurturing enough to provide the nourishment I needed.  And this seems to be a huge issue for a lot of people as it's one of the questions I am asked most often!

Over many years I tried dozens of options, narrowing down what ingredients seemed to work well for my fussy face and what I needed to steer clear from.  I said bye bye to coconut oil, harsh alcohols, phenoxyethonal, and overly thick textures.  It was a long process, but so worthwhile.  And now I can share my findings with all of you!

Today I am offering up a little review of all the best natural moisturizers for combination skin (not including oils or balms!), and I hope that this list of green beauty products makes your life a little easier and your skin all the more radiant.

Kri Endless Moisturiser with a Beauty Shortlist Awards editor's choice badge

Kri Skincare Endless Moisturiser Review:

Oh how I adore Kri.  This brand specializes in gentle vegan friendly treatments that are ideal for sensitive skin types, but I also find they are perfect for all.  While I love both of their moisturizing products, I find that Endless tips the scale for me in terms of favourites.   Endless contains hyaluronic acid for a super boost of hydration, squalane to replenish and soften, and jojoba oil which gives an extra dose of moisture.  This face cream was designed to deliver a silky smooth finish, and the fragrance free formula ensures your skin remains calm and is given the relief it needs.  Kri offers an intensive formula that looks and feels so full when it is first pumped out, yet it is more like a second skin once applied.  And you can feel the difference in your skin's texture as it brings an immediate lift to the area.  This is certainly a special product, and one that I always recommend to anyone searching for a solution for their combination skin.

Terre Verdi NeroliPom Moisturiser sitting amongst flowers in a pot

Terre Verdi Neroli Pom Moisturiser Review:

One of my first successful finds for a moisturizer that suited my blemish prone and semi sensitive skin was the Neroli Pom Moisturizer from Terre Verdi.  I first tried a sample years and years ago after getting one in an edit of the Freedm Street subscription box, and I then got a full size bottle to see if the magical vegan friendly cream was as good as I thought.  It was!  Never have I tried a formula that is so lightweight while also delivering a high level of nourishment.  NeroliPom is technically formulated for dry or mature skin, but it doesn't clog pores or leave the face feeling greasy at all.  The cream is a dream - light, smooth, fully absorbing, and satin-soft.  White tea, pomegranate seed oil, aloe vera powder, and neroli flower oil work together to make an antioxidant packed moisturizer that is both soothing and wholesome.  It's one of the best, and that's why it remains a favourite to this day!

O Moi Plump It Up Face Cream box and jar on a pink and white zig zag background with a scoop of the moisturiser on a white spatula

O Moi Plump It Up Face Cream Review:

A discovery made when judging in the Beauty Shortlist Awards, O Moi is a Danish brand that quickly wowed me with their fabulous face cream.  They have created something really unique with almost colour shifting properties to it and a transfixing scent that uplifts and calms the mind.  In the pot, the Plump It Up Face Cream looks incredibly rich, thick, and like it would be combination skin's worst nightmare.  But that couldn't be further from the truth.  With a brilliant balance of hydration and moisture, O Moi offers a surprisingly light finish, an instant plumping effect, and creates an effect where the skin feels nourished, silky soft, and looks so healthy.  The blend of hyaluronic acid, dragon's blood, pomegranate, camellia, shea, and cocoa is rejuvenating and intensive, and it delivers a huge boost to the face without leading to oily residues or unwanted spots.  Definitely a keeper, and one I was thrilled to stumble upon.

Pamoja Revive Face Cream with a scoop of fluffy moisturiser, sitting on a bookshelf next to a red and green peperomia plant

Pamoja Revive Multi-action Face Cream Review:

A more recent addition to my list of best natural moisturizers for combination skin is the vegan friendly Revive Multi-action Face Cream from Pamoja.   Unlike so many other formulas that proved to be either too heavy, melt off, or break me out, this one posed no such issues.  Crafted to deliver relief for tight and irritated skin and increased elasticity, this treatment provides instant hydration and is a total dream to use.  Again, this one looks super rich in the jar, but once you begin to massage into the face you realize it is actually pretty airy and feels lightweight.  No congested pores, no irritation, and no greasy residue - just plumped up and less redness in the cheeks!   The mix of red raspberry seed, marula, cacay, and sunflower oil along with murumuru seed butter give this balance and helps make this a fab face cream for all skin types and all seasons, and it is one I have loved ever since I got my first pot.

Skn-RG Advanced Brightening Moisturiser on top of a purple oxalis plant

Skn-RG Advanced Brightening Moisturiser Review:

Another formula that has been added to my favourites list is from science meets nature brand Skn-RG.  Their Advanced Brightening Moisturiser is a game changing vegan treatment as it pioneers a combination of actives called Ultra Luminance Complex.  The special blend of Vitamin C, B3, Zinc, MSM, Aminos and AHA’s work to tone, smooth, and brighten, and the base of apple and raspberry oils, hyaluronic acid, and prebiotics ensure soothing and healing benefits.  This cream is emollient, and while it feels fairly slick to start out with it actually ends up being super lightweight and is perfect for acne-prone and combination skin types since it doesn't leave any heavy residue and it's bursting with antioxidants.  While the scent isn't my favourite, the experience as a whole is excellent since your face is left looking brighter, tighter, and restored.

PHB Gentle Moisturiser texture shot - a white cream on top of a coconut bowl

PHB Gentle Moisturiser Review:

PHB has been a long time love of mine, and their Gentle Moisturiser has consistently been on my beauty shelf since I first tried it many years ago.  This is a simple solution for those needing a small boost without any added essential oils or overly rich ingredients.  It's not intensively nourishing, but it works to heal with a vegan friendly mix of aloe, shea, apricot, and sunflower.  The hypoallergenic formula has a vaguely sweet and nutty aroma if you breathe in deeply, but overall the face cream is the ultimate subtle treatment.  I love that it absorbs so well, and it doesn't cling to the skin or leave it feeling sticky or weighed down, and I find myself reaching for this bottle when I need a break from a full ritual as I can trust it will maintain the fresh and healthy appearance without the need for lots of other products.

I am sure I will discover more wonderful eco friendly and ethical face creams in future, but for now I wanted to create a handy guide for everyone who asks me what the best natural moisturizers are for combination, acne-prone, or sensitive skin types.  I really hope this helps you find your perfect match, and do let me know if you try any of these!  Or, if you have other recommendations I should check out do share, as I am always up for testing out new formulas so I can let others know my experience! xx
