More Than A Balm - Meadow Skincare Review

Waterless beauty is a growing trend in the industry as customers seek out more sustainable and environmentally friendly products, but just what is a 'waterless' formula??

It's pretty straightforward actually - when a brand decides to create a product without the use of water, opting instead for oils, waxes, butters, and powders, the final result falls into the category of waterless beauty.  This not only saves on water (something that many experts hint is going to become more and more necessary), but it also limits the need to incorporate preservatives without compromising on shelf life.  This is a huge plus for those looking to minimize their exposure to potentially harmful and irritating ingredients, and is becoming more and more of a draw for consumers who are in turn moving to eco friendly brands to fulfill their needs.

Meadow Skincare Review - vegan natural skincare brand UK

And that's part of why I love Meadow Skincare so much - not only are they a waterless brand, but they truly embrace the ethics behind such a move.  But what else helps set this small business out from the crowd?  Well, a few things actually!

First, their approach to formulating is just so appreciated, as the brand is not rushing to get out as many products as possible.  Instead, the focus is to have a curated collection that is created with purpose - a capsule range that in no way overwhelms customers, but instead provides a minimalist selection of highly effective treatments.  With Meadow Skincare you won't find sixteen serums with minuscule changes made to the base formulas - you will find six fabulous multi-taskers that are suitable for pretty much all skin types (yes, even my fussy face!!).  And each of these is made with gorgeous natural and organic ingredients so you know that the earth (nor your skin) is compromised.

Their packaging reflects this mindful approach, with the majority of their line being housed in miron glass and plastic being kept to an absolute minimum.  So when you choose to shop with Meadow Skincare, you are reducing your packaging waste along with water waste - pretty great!

In my last review of Meadow Skincare I shared my thoughts on their intensive facial oil, unique clearing facial mask, silky cleanser, and soothing face balm, but since then I have also had the joy of using their super gentle exfoliant as well.  I have been impressed by each of their creations, and have been pleasantly surprised to find that each has been kind to my congestion prone semi-sensitive skin.  They truly have produced a special range.

Which leads me to the latest launches...

Meadow Skincare Review - Ultra Protecting lip & hand balm, Instant Hydration Body Balm

Welcome the new dynamic duo to hit the Meadow Skincare range: the Ultra Protective Lip & Hand Balm and the Instant Hydration Body Balm!  Let's take a closer look...

Ultra Protective Lip & Hand Balm:

My hands have never needed as much TLC so much as they do right now, as all the extra hand washing has really taken a toll on the state of my skin.  So of course I was thrilled to hear that Meadow Skincare was developing a balm to deliver protection against dryness and irritation.

But this is not your average treatment.  Like everything Meadow Skincare makes, this has been formulated as a multi-tasking marvel - a product that can heal cracked lips as well as sore hands.  And they have hit the nail right on the head!

Meadow Skincare Ultra Protective Lip & Hand Balm Review

With rich butters and oils like apricot, murumuru, mango, oat, illipe (a butter similar to cocoa or shea but more suited for keeping solid and silky), and kokum, this creation gives the ultimate moisture boost.  Compact in the plastic free tin, yet easily applied as it melts on contact with the skin, this waterless balm feels so smooth as you slide it across your hands, lips, and other dry areas that need some extra love.  It's instant relief for sore spots, and immediately starts to work on repairing the skin!

Rather than feeling super oily or slick, it sinks in well and is non-greasy overall.  I hate feeling like I have anything on my hands, and this has given me no issues or discomfort because it absorbs quickly and I can just get on with what I'm doing.  To me, that is super important.

I also love that this is scent free, as it makes the Ultra Protective Lip & Hand Balm all the more gentle - no essential oils, no fragrance whatsoever is to be found here.  Just pure restorative plants.  My hands and lips can be pretty sensitive, especially when they are already having a hard time, so the minimalist approach here is especially appreciated.

I've found this balm to be a lovely addition to my routine, and I have found myself using it even after my skin feels better.  I pop a little on underneath lipstick for an extra smoothness and shine, add a little to my hands after washing to keep them soothed and moisturized, and rub a little bit onto places like my elbows and knees a few times a week to keep them from getting rough.  This has so many uses, it really is super handy.  And the fact that I can just pop it in my pocket or handbag makes it all the more convenient, as I can always have one with me!

Ingredients: Illipe Butter, Apricot Butter, Mango Butter, Oat Oil, Murumuru Butter, Apricot Oil,  Kokum Butter, Vegan Wax, Vitamin E

Instant Hydration Body Balm:

Like the idea of a body oil but aren't super keen on the slickness of such a treatment?  Love the intensive boost from a body butter but don't like the heavy feeling that lingers?  Well this Instant Hydration Body Balm is the perfect hybrid and delivers the best of both worlds without any of unwanted qualities!

This is a waterless balm that is positively luscious in every way -from the delicate pale yellow shade and soft zingy aroma to the creamy texture and silky finish...  Meadow Skincare really hit a home run with this product - I absolutely LOVE it!

Meadow Skincare Instant Hydration Body Balm Review

Just by looking at this beauty you can tell you are in for a real treat, and as soon as you dig in you will be hooked.  Unlike many other balms that are dense or require some massaging to melt down, this is soft and silky from the start.  It verges on that boundary between a rich cream and a thick oil, and marries the two perfectly with a velvety touch that is so luxurious.  This glides across the skin with no effort at all, and leaves you glowing from top to toe.

The combination of apricot, mango, and kokum butter, oat, macadamia, safflower, and argan oil, and plant waxes makes for a treatment that rivals any spa or high end bottles with nonsense promises.  These ingredients work together to improve elasticity, reduce and prevent stretch marks, deeply nourish, and treat dry irritated skin, all while ensuring the gentlest touch.  It's something special, and I have been really enjoying incorporating this conditioning balm into my daily ritual.  A little bit post shower has done wonders for my skin, and slowly massaging a pea size amount on after sun exposure has ensured everything stays radiant, soft, and healthy.

And while this smells gorgeous with the energizing yet calming blend of neroli, bergamot, mandarin, patchouli, and grapefruit, the essential oils do more than just provide a soft and spirit lifting scent.  They actually target scarring!  Every element of this body balm has a purpose and has been added with intention, and I think Meadow Skincare deserves a round of applause for such attention to detail and dedication to formulation.

Ingredients: Apricot Butter, Mango Butter, Oat Oil, Macadamia Oil, Kokum Butter, Safflower Seed Oil, Argan Oil, Vegan Wax, Vitamin E, Neroli, Bergamot, Mandarin, Patchouli and Grapefruit Essential Oils

Meadow Skincare Review - waterless beauty balms

Meadow Skincare have certainly done it again, creating two marvelous waterless beauty treats that minimize waste and elevate the health of your skin by drawing on the power of plants.  Both the Ultra Protective Lip & Hand Balm and the Instant Hydration Body Balm provide so much needed nourishment (something that has been needed in this chaotic times) but also work to soothe and replenish.

I have been especially impressed by the body balm, and love how luxurious the texture is and how the blend helps soften and illuminate my skin - it's an absolute delight to use, and I am so thankful I've had the chance to try it!

Have you used Meadow Skincare yet??  I would love to hear what your favourites from the range are.  And if you have not yet picked up any of their lovely green goodies, which would be on your wishlist?  Keen to hear your thoughts!  And remember, you can treat yourself to 10% off your first order by using code SKYE at checkout (plus free UK shipping on all orders over £18!).

  1. I’ve just realised that the majority of my skincare isn’t waterless, unless I use a face wash to remove glittery or full coverage makeup, which I don’t wear that often. All of these products look wonderful and so pampering! Maybe a balm/oil makeup remover will be my next purchase.
