Superstar Skin Soothers - Bodhi & Birch Review

It's time to talk Bodhi & Birch!  If you have been around The ecoLogical for a while, you will know that I am a big fan of Bodhi & Birch.  Founded by the kind hearted Elijah in 2010, this natural brand has made waves in the beauty world thanks to their luxurious formulas, holistic approach, and effective results.

Bodhi & Birch have scooped up loads of awards, including Best New Skincare Launch for their Superfood Series in 2019's Beauty Shortlist Awards, and they consistently wow customers and critics alike.  Including me!

I have had the joy of testing a fair few of their products over the last several years, and there is not one that I have been disappointed by.  I was first introduced to the brand by The Natural Beauty Box when I received a mini bottle of the Chinois Blue Body Oil (a delectable skin treatment that evokes a spring sunrise -- delicate, sweet, and full of life).  From that moment I was hooked.

Bodhi & Birch Review - Eco Luxe Skincare Brand

Bodhi & Birch is a niche, independent, eco-luxury skincare brand, established in the UK since 2010 and has since grown to be a brand synonymous with natural organic skincare and wellbeing. We create 24/7 antidotes to modern life – sensory bath, body and skin care to awaken the skin and enlighten your senses.

Since first sampling that oil I have dipped my toes into the wonderful variety Bodhi & Birch offers, from their Bath & Shower Therapy treatments to their sensational Superfood Series, all of which proved to be exceptional.  I've been slow to bring out reviews for these, as I was worried my words wouldn't do the products justice (something I have mentioned previously on Instagram) -- but it's time to change that hesitation and I'm excited to jump into a review of some green goodies I was graciously sent to try!

Elijah reached out to see if I would be interested in testing out a few more products from the range, and I was thrilled (and honoured!) to be asked.  And imagine my excitement when I opened the parcel and there was not one, not two, but THREE skincare treatments inside!

Spoiler alert - I loved all of them!  I've been using these for several weeks now, and each has won me over.  But if you want all the details on the Nordic White Body Oil, Lime Blossom Protecting Hand Serum, and Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub, grab a cuppa and get ready to dig in to this special trio with me!

Nordic White Body Oil:

While this multi-purpose oil may capture the snow swept wintry vibes of Nordic forests, it absolutely glows with a crisp golden freshness.  The rich honey-like hue is so stunning, and it really captures your attention from the first moment you lie eyes on it.  And the beauty doesn't stop there...

Smooth over body after bath or shower for soft glowing skin. Alternatively, warm oil in hands and massage into skin using firm strokes. // Tip: To use as a hair treatment oil, apply a tablespoon to palm and gently massage from scalp to tip.
Bodhi & Birch Nordic White Body Oil Review

The blend of black spruce, pine, rosemary, frankincense, french cypress, eucalyptus, petitgrain, lavender, star anise, bay, and other essential oils are perfectly balanced to provide a soft but highly fragrant aroma that is grounding yet invigorating.  This is an oil that is spicy, yet has a subtle sweetness lurking beneath the surface, and it is oh so calming.  Bodhi & Birch have crafted an oil that is able to bring the full complexity of the wilds, and have captured the peaceful silence as well as the untouched mysteries that are hidden within the heart of the natural world.

And the oil itself is a delight to use as it is super nourishing without being greasy at all.  This sinks in quickly, leaves no sticky or slick residue, and helps bring a renewed radiance to your body thanks to the high levels of Gamma Linoleic Acid, Oligomeric Proanthocyanidin Complexes (natural plant compounds that studies show demonstrate "antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and vasodilatory actions" - so great for your skin!), and Omega 6.  The combination of safflower, grape, jojoba, starflower, and Vitamin E works to moisturize, improve skin health, protect and regenerate, and increase that smooth supple look that so many of us strive for.  It's a real powerhouse of ingredients, and everything works so well together!

I've been loving the Nordic White Body Oil as an afternoon massage oil, a pre-bath treatment, and for dry spots like elbows and feet, but I find that my favourite application is for after my showers in particular.  I find the treatment absorbs even better when my skin is slightly damp and I adore the feeling it gives - silky legs, velvety arms, and my whole body feeling totally replenished.  This has especially been important over the last week, as I have been spending so much time outside in the sun.  I'm able to revitalize my skin after a long day of exposure (all covered in sunscreen of course!), and it helps me retain healthy happy skin while also centering my mind.  Perfect!

Ingredients: Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Borago Officinalis (Starflower) Seed Oil, Mixed Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Picea Mariana (Black Spruce) Leaf Oil, Cupressus Sempervirens (French Cypress) Leaf Oil, Pinus Sylvestris (Pine) Leaf Oil, Boswellia Carterii (Frankincense) Oil, Juniperus Communis (Juniperberry) Fruit Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Petitgrain) Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus (Eucalyptus) Oil, Lavendula Augustifolia (Lavender) Leaf Oil, Ocimum Basilicum (Basil) Leaf Oil, Citrus Bergamia (Bergamot) Peel Oil, Foeniculum Vulgare Dulce (Sweet Fennel) Oil, Illicium Verum (Star Anise) Fruit Oil, Laurus Nobilis (Bay) Leaf Oil, Eugenol, Limonene, Linalool

Lime Blossom Protecting Hand Serum:

The last month has had me washing my hands at least twice the amount as usual, so my hands have definitely been feeling the effects.  While I have been lucky enough to avoid excessive exposure to sanitizers and harsh surfactants by staying home as much as possible, they definitely still are a bit more tender and dry.  That is, until I started using the Lime Blossom Protecting Hand Serum from Bodhi & Birch!

This is not your average hand cream, nor is it a normal multi-tasking oil...  The formula contains a special mix of all natural ingredients that target ageing, loss of hydration, congestion, and of course dry patches, all while smelling absolutely divine.

Bodhi & Birch Lime Blossom Protecting Hand Serum Review

A fast penetrating oil serum to deeply nourish skin and cuticle, shield skin from free-radical damage and diminish the appearance of skin ageing, spots and blemishes. Leaves skin feeling dewy soft, hydrated and deliciously scented with an uplifting fragrance of citrus flowers.

Bodhi & Birch uses plant based squalane, an invaluable ingredient that mimics the skin's natural oils and leads to improved hydration, benefits the moisture barrier, and so gentle that it is suitable for all skin types.  This is an excellent emollient, and highly versatile, so it is no wonder that the Lime Blossom serum is such a star.  Add in fatty acid rich rosehip, softening sweet almond, ultra-nourishing plum, soothing safflower, and elasticity boosting Vitamin E and you have a potent serum that is ready to pamper and heal irritated hands!

And then pair that with the most mouth-wateringly zesty aroma that immediately lifts your mood and makes you feel like you are sailing down a sunny tropical coastline with a cold margarita in your hand...  It's such bliss!  The aroma hits you right on the nose and is like an instant dose of sunshine - bright, full bodied, crisp, with a sugary tartness that is softened by peace inducing frankincense and lavender.  It is like happiness in a bottle.

I find the texture of this brilliant, as the medium-bodied serum is surprisingly delicate upon application.  The palest hint of yellow tinges the treatment, hinting at the protecting oils within the formula, and it glides across the skin with ease making even just a single drop go so far.  It sinks in within about ten seconds, and I am always so stunned by how conditioned my hands and forearms feel.  It's a total transformation, and with regular use I found that even with all the extra washing I was doing I wasn't developing any flaking or sore areas.

This might just be my favourite of the trio I'm talking about today, as the scent is just so inspiring and the consistency is a dream.  I can't rate this enough, and it most definitely is a special discovery.

Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub:

You might recognize this beauty already from my recent roundup of Spring inspired products, but I'm happy to rave about it even more today!

The Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub is an exfoliating treatment designed to detox the body, renew skin, and revive the spirit.  Like the other green goodies I've been testing from Bodhi & Birch, this creation is proving to be a total winner, and I find that the harmony it has achieved makes it something very special indeed.

Boasting a spectrum of minerals and trace elements, Himalayan Salt Crystals possess unique mineral ions to help equalise the body’s bioenergetic fields, stimulate cell regeneration, enhance lymphatic flow and induce a meditative sense of calm.

Bodhi & Birch Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub Review

I'll be honest, I have found myself moving away from many body scrubs as I never find them to be perfectly suited for me.  I like an exfoliant that is gentle but effective, nourishing but not slick, offers a treat for my senses as well as my skin, and is truly worth my energy.  The number of actual favourites in this category of skincare for me personally is very slim, however I'm happy to say I can now raise that number to three thanks to Rosemary Chi!

Not too harsh, not too oily, this scrub has got it just right.  I find the light pink tone super inviting, and the aromatherapeutic properties are just what I need when I am feeling overwhelmed or when my brain is struggling to find clarity and calm.  This is a blend that grounds me, revitalizes my sluggish mind, and brings me back to earth.  I also love that it brings to mind the return of dainty little blue flowers on my rosemary bush and the reawakening of all the plants in the garden - it captures a sense of rebirth that is just so soothing.

And the essential oils that create this intriguing scent are doing more than just providing a lovely plant based fragrance - they are delivering benefits for the skin as well!  Rosemary acts as a natural detox, geranium serves as a cellulite treatment, tea tree offers anti-inflammatory qualities...  The list goes on, and as is the case with every Bodhi & Birch formulation, each ingredients serves an important role that always has both beauty AND wellbeing in mind.

In terms of the treatment this provides, I find the grain is that perfect middle ground between ultra-fine powder and large crystals - it's a fusion that ensures you are getting an effective exfoliation without being too rigorous or scratchy thanks to the nourishing oils that saturate the entirety of the Rosemary Chi scrub.  Shea, grape seed, squalane, sweet almond, apricot, and Vitamin E all come together to provide a soothing moisture boost alongside the buffing action, and I find it provides a balanced approach that leads to smooth, soft, and glowing skin all over.  It's just what I want for the lead-up to sunnier weather, and I'm so pleased I've had the chance to try this gorgeous creation.
