Zuii Organic - A Solution to Nontoxic Tanning!

As sunny days slowly creeps up on us (hard to believe with this weather lately, but summer is coming!), many will start to think about how to achieve a beach bronze look.  But is there a way to do this without loading up your body full of toxins??  The answer is yes thanks to brands like Zuii Organic!

Gifted product - these items were gifted as part of the LLABP

No matter how I have received a product, whether it has been purchased with my own money, gifted by a brand, been subsidized by a brand, won, gifted by friends/family, or purchased with a gift voucher, my approach is always the same -- honesty, integrity, and highlighting both the good and the bad.  You can find more information on Disclosures and Privacy here.

Zuii Organic is an Australian brand with a focus on glowing skin, and they embrace the essence of nature to make that happen.  The range of self tanning products (including sprays, lotions, oils, and foams), tanning tools, body care treatments, and luminizing makeup incorporates functional actives as well as minerals and plant extracts in an effort to provide a healthy glow and hydrated smooth skin -- all while only using natural ingredients!

All of Zuii Organic's offerings are cruelty free, vegan, and COSMOS certified organic, plus they focus on utilizing sustainable materials to keep their environmental impact as low as possible:

"Certified Organic Bamboo Juice is one of the range's signature ingredients, chosen primarily for its sustainability and environmental promise. Bamboo is the fastest growing and strongest botanical resource on the planet. The invigorating, moisture-rich product range was made by combining Bamboo with nutrient and vitamin enriched plant-based ingredients such as Lichen, Moss and Fern."

I actually asked to test out their body polish and/or highlighter as part of the LLABP, as I have pretty much accepted that I am a pasty white ghost and I've not had great luck with self tanning products in the past.  Often I end up a streaky mess, an orange monster, or just look a bit 'fake' if you know what I mean.  So when a bundle of tanner arrived at my door I was very hesitant to try any.  Luckily one of the Love Lula edits of the Beauty Box included a few sample sachets so I was able to test out how these formulas worked before committing to opening the full size bottles.

Well, I was pretty impressed by the natural sunkissed glow I managed to get from the Gradual Self Tan Body Lotion.  You have to use a fair amount to get a noticeable difference in skin tone (one sachet covers one leg, but you really need two to get a good bronze going on!), but there was no patchy areas and it didn't leave me looking like I had rolled around in Cheeto dust so that's a total win in my opinion.  Plus, unlike many other self tanners I have tried, Zuii Organic's did not leave me smelling of wet dog.  It has a subtle scent, but it dissipates pretty quickly so it wasn't super noticeable.

Since the sachet experiment went so well, I then decided to try some of the other tanning treats I had been sent to test out.  I had a similar experience with both the Dry Oil Self Tan Extender and the Luminising Creme, and will be incorporating these green goodies into my summer skincare routine every once and a while so I don't scare people off when I go to the waterfront.  I probably won't ever be a full on tan-tastic kind of person, as I just can't seem to remember to keep up the effort, but since Zuii Organic's products work so quickly I don't have to worry so much about a strict regime.  I can just pop some on the day before and have a lovely full-body glow just in time for the beach!

That being said, I do hate wasting products, so if I think I will only use something a handful of times I try to gift it on ASAP instead of opening it up and potentially having the majority of it go unused.  That's why I decided I would be giving away two of the full goodies from Zuii Organic -- but more on that at the end of the review!

For now, check out some of their tanning options:

Certified Organic Flora Dry Oil Tan Extender:
This is the only full size item I decided to try for myself, as it sounded the one most suited for my needs.  I love a good misting product, especially one that is nourishing or hydrating on the skin, so of course I was keen to test this one out.

The Dry Oil Tan Extender isn't your average self-tan.  It's actually a combination of a sunless tanner, a tan extender, and a skin nourishing treatment.  This 97% organic formula works to uplift and prolong the healthy look of your bronzed complexion, making your luminous glow last all the longer.

Zuii Organic Sunless Self Tan - Dry Oil Tan Extender

"Make your tan last longer and hydrate your skin with Zuii Organic Flora Dry Oil Self Tan Extender. Made from a blend of Almond, Sunflower and Camellia Seed Oil, this non-greasy lotion will subtly enhance your tan, lock in the colour and hydrate your skin."

The nozzle sprays evenly and lightly, making it both refreshing and easy to use.  The liquid has an almost white tint to it which is unexpected, but it absorbs quickly and doesn't leave you speckled at all once you massage the oil into your skin.  I found my skin drank this up, and felt so soft and smooth after applying.  It's actually tempting to just use this as a straight up body oil with some bonus features!

Another pleasant surprise was the scent - this one is different from the others, as the aroma of the carrier oils come through stronger, but it is also mixed with a zesty undertone.  It reminds me of hot days outside, and it has something very familiar to it that I can't quite put my finger on.

If you're looking for a deep bronze look, this isn't the Zuii Organic product you want, but if you want a daily dose of moisture along with a gentle glow, this is the one for you.  I'll be using this as an after sun product sometimes too I think, as the formula feels great on the skin and will work to both heal and enhance at the same time.

Certified Organic Flora Gradual Tan Face Water:
The face water from Zuii Organic has been designed to be a lightweight and fast drying option for those who want to increase their luminosity naturally but still might want to add makeup on top.

This isn't a spray and go product as you might expect, but more of a toner that you can apply with your hands or a cotton round.  As such, it offers a boost of hydration as well as a glow-up!  Those who use have claimed it's the perfect all-in-one, and that it smooths pores and firms the face.  Sound good??  Then this might just be the one for you!

Zuii Organic Sunless Self Tan - Gradualt Tan Face Water

"Tan, hydrate and firm your face the natural way with Zuii Organic Flora Gradual Self Tan Face Water. Light as water, Zuii's unique formula uses a combination of Lichen, Fern Extract and Bulbine Extract to boost hydration and elasticity, while enhancing your tan over time. Use just like a toner - smooth onto your skin after cleansing and you’re good to glow! The formula is quick to dry and noncomedogenic, so it's perfect as a moisturiser under your foundation."

This product has been created to offer a serum-like consistency first, followed by a gradual tan that provides a lovely luminous look on the daily.  And one of you eco-beauties will be taking one home soon thanks to Love Lula and Zuii Organic - giveaway details at the end of this post!

Certified Organic Flora Gradual Tan Face Lotion:
If you don't think the face water is for you, you're still in luck as Zuii Organic has created a lotion option you can try as well.  The lotion is an easy to apply formula that can actually replace your daily moisturizer thanks to its nourishing properties.  You just apply as you would any other face cream, and you're ready to go!

"Tan and hydrate your face with Zuii Organic Flora Gradual Self Tan Face Lotion. This innovative formulation offers a no-orange, natural-looking tan that deepens with every use. The non-oily lotion is a perfect alternative for your daily moisturiser and anti-ageing serum, as it hydrates your skin, boosts collagen and reduces fine lines. Zuii has used a unique combination of botanical ingredients such as Lichen, Moss and Fern Extract to boost the elasticity and health of the skin as you tan."

I had two sample sachets of this to try out, and I'm happy I braved it and decided to try.  First, it's so easy to use.  The lotion is very lightweight, lighter than any moisturizer I've tried, and comes out white but quickly absorbs so there is no residue visible.  Like the body lotion, this gives a very natural glow that requires more product if you want a deeper tone - but if you're pasty like me then just the single application works a treat.  It's provides a subtle boost to your skin, perfect for those transition months before the sun finally comes out to stay.  And again, it doesn't stink so that's a total win!

Certified Organic Flora Self Tanning Foam:
Again, Zuii Organic does a great job of delivering an option for everyone here with the foam formula.  If you're a newbie at tanning, or just like a faff free option, foam tends to be the easiest to apply in my experience because you can see exactly what you are doing.  You just pump it out and  massage it evenly all over the skin - simple as!

Zuii Organic Sunless Self Tan - Self Tanning Foam in Ultra Dark

And Zuii Organic is no exception:

"Zuii Organic Flora Self Tanning Foam [...] will give you an instant, natural-looking tan, while simultaneously nourishing your skin. The self-tan foam contains a unique combination of Bamboo Juice, Raw Cacao and Grape Skin Extract to keep your skin hydrated and glowing. The foam is lightweight, unscented and easy to apply. It will glide on effortlessly to deliver a no-orange [...] tan for up to 10 days."

There are four shade options to choose from, ranging from golden tan to deep bronze: Light, Medium, Dark, and Ultra Dark.  Each contains pretty much the same ingredients, but in different concentrations that determine how dark a tan you'll achieve from the foam.  You can wash off the formula after a few hours so the actives stop developing the colour, or you can reapply to get an even more bronzed look.  Best thing about it?  You don't have to worry about this drying out your skin since it contains so many nourishing plant powered extracts!

Since I was sent Ultra Dark and I'm super fair skinned, I will be giving away the full size product to one lucky winner - find the entry details below!

Zuii Organic Sunless Self Tan products

I think that most of Zuii Organic's products are well priced for an organic brand, and you know what they say -- you pay for what you get.  These are high quality formulas that don't take any shortcuts.  They use sustainable and eco friendly ingredients, are safe for the skin and the planet, and provide great results that make it look like you really spent some time outdoors sunbathing instead of holed up for the winter.

The only aspect that I wasn't keen on was the packaging, as it is all plastic.  And since it is a mixed plastic with a black colouring (labelled 7 PETG), it may be hard to recycle since most curbside pickups don't cater to this type of material.  It *is* recyclable, but not through the majority of local facilities.  Because of this, I wouldn't repurchase at the moment even though I do really like the formulas.  Fingers crossed Zuii Organic switches to a more widely recyclable material, or even better, glass!

But overall, for a range that offers a nontoxic solution to getting a summer glow, I say the price tag is worth it, especially if you can try before you buy!

And today one person will get to do just that -- I am giving away two full size Zuii Organic products: the Certified Organic Flora Self Tanning Foam and the Gradual Tan Face Water.  If you want a chance to snag these two organic skin treatments for yourself, just enter via the Rafflecopter link below!
