Love Lula Beauty Box: June 2018

Well, I have to say it -- Love Lula knocked it out of the park this month!  With a value of £67, a newly launched product, and a name entirely new to the box, this collection brings a lot to be excited about.  While we only get three full size products, the quality of everything really makes up for that.

I know my skincare collection is full to bursting at this point, so I was pleased to see a few non-skincare items inside the June Love Lula Beauty Box, including a sleep spray and a roll on perfume.  This definitely will be remembered as one of my favourite boxes I have received, and I am pleased to say I will be using everything.

L'Odaites Apothicaire Des Sens Gentle Polyphenol Exfoliator (60ml - £39)

The product with the highest value this month is the full size facial exfoliator from French skincare brand L’ODAÏTÈS.  I have not used anything from their range before, so I was not sure what to expect.  I was really excited to test out this antioxidant rich formula, especially once I read it contained dates -- this is one ingredient I have never before seen in a product!  Anything new I am ready for, so I opened up the jar almost immediately.

The exfoliator is meant to invigorate and energize the skin, provide moisture, refine texture, smooth, and get the complexion looking clear and radiant -- perfect for summer, right?? Plus, rather than coarse grains to buff away dead skin cells, it utilizes the power of fruit enzymes and acids to revitalize the facial area.

The smell is a bit sweet, but I find it really lovely and summery.  I'm guessing it is the dates coming through, along with the honey.  Colour-wise, it reminds me of a marmite -- luckily it doesn't have much other resemblance!   The mask has a consistency that is much richer and more sticky than I anticipated, but this means it applies evenly and coats fully when you put it on your face.  I will say it clings, and when you rinse it off there is definitely a residue left behind, but this makes for a good moisture boost.  Since the formula is so thick, I found it did leave me with a minor breakout the next few days, but the second time I masked I didn't have quite so many unwanted guests on my chin/nose.  I am going to continue to use this jar, and hopefully I can fully adjust so I don't have any spots after use as I want to love it -- just not sure if it is too much for my sensitive/combo skin!

Ingredients: HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL, GLYCERIN, PHOENIX DACTYLIFERA (DATES) FRUIT POWDER, PHOENIX DACTYLIFERA (DATES) FRUIT EXTRACT, ALOE BARBADENSIS (LEAF JUICE) GEL, MEL (HONEY), OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) LEAF EXTRACT, SUCROSE LAURATE, TOCOPHEROL, ASCORBIC ACID, AMMONIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE/VP COPOLYMER, SODIUM LEVULINATE, SODIUM ANISATE, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), CITRIC ACID, AQUA.

REN & Now to Sleep Pillow Spray (10ml - £2.40)

I am not usually super keen on REN, but I have to say that this Pillow Spray is FANTASTIC.  I brought it along on our recent mini-break to Leeds/Manchester, and it worked wonders.  The complex we stayed in unfortunately was pretty noisy, but this "& Now To Sleep" formula really helped to calm our minds and soothe us into sleep (well, at least until the construction workers decided to start for the day).  Two quick spritzes on the pillow is all you need and you get the full scent and effect.

The spray is a lovely blend of soothing essential oils, including lavender, cedarwood, frankincense, geranium, and hops.  Everything works perfectly together to help lull you to bed and keep you dreaming -- the only thing it is missing is an automatic mute for the outside noise at 7AM.

The tube is made of plastic, so I will say that I hope that REN will transition to glass in the future.  I am glad to have had the chance to try this sleep aid out thanks to Love Lula, as they have made me think twice about my decision not to use the brand.  I will definitely be investigating the range further!

Walden See the Moonlight Perfume Oil (10ml - £17 )

Another scent, but this one is very different from the previous -- first of all, it is a roll on applicator method.  Second, it is for daytime use.  Third, it is a brand new release from Love Lula!

I have tried all of the Walden range at this point, and I have to say I have been super pleased with all of the fragrances they have created.  Each one is unique and smells so wonderful, so I was really looking forward to trying out the newest release - See the Moonlight.  I was not disappointed!

To me, it brings to mind jasmine and warm evenings outside.  It is a woody floral scent with a bit of richness and a lot of depth, and I adore everything about it.  It is so far from what I usually choose from a fragrance, and the unexpected has truly found its way into my favourites already.  Plus, I love that the Walden perfumes have branched out to roll on oils, as this is great for those abroad who have not previously been able to try the range, and it is great for those of us looking for something easy to pop into our bags and reapply without making a scene (no one wants to be that person who is misting themselves with perfume outside the shops!).

Ingredients: Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia Peel Oil, Jasminum Sambac Flower Extract, Santalum Album Oil, Myrocarpus Frondosus Wood Oil, Iris Pallida Root Oil, Evernia Prunastri Extract, Cistus Ladaniferus Oil, Pogostemon Cablin Leaf Oil, Rosa Centifolia Flower Extract, Hibiscus Abelmoschus Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Flower Oil *Benzyl Benzoate, *Eugenol, *Treemoss Extract, *d-Limonene, *Citral, *Citronellol, *Geraniol, *Farnesol, *Linalol

Joik Refreshing Facial Toner & Joik Sweet Orange and Mint Body Butter (100ml - £10)

I have tried a few products from Joik before, including their lavender bath salts (dreamy!) and the bath truffles (oh so nourishing!), but I have not ventured too far into their skincare range.  I was interested, but cautious, as I tend to be when introducing new things into my very careful routine.  I have to say, I have had some terrible experiences with toners in the past, as many contain phenoxyethonal which burns my skin and leaves it irritated for hours and hours.  Thankfully, this preservative is not found in Joik's toner, so I was free to test it out!

The toner includes sea-buckthorn and aloe vera, so I knew this would be super hydrating straight off the bat.  What I did not expect was how clearly separated the oils in the toner would be -- since there is not many additives to this formula, the bottle needs to be thoroughly shaken before use, otherwise you end up rubbing a bunch of oils on your face!  However, once you get used to this extra step, the toner is actually really lovely.  I found it was light enough to use without my skin becoming congested, and smelled really uplifting thanks to the peppermint.  Plus, the full size bottle is so affordable at just a tenner -- I have to hand it to Joik, they know how to make quality products that don't cost the earth.

The body butter was an nice extra treat, though I am never thrilled about receiving sample sachets as a main item in subscription boxes.  I found the consistency just about thick enough, and it was a good little moisture boost for my legs.  Unfortunately, there was not enough product left to use it again (or to use it on any other part of my body...), so I am not sure how much of a difference it made.  I will say it smelled really good, and the combination of orange and mint was interesting.

Overall I am thrilled with the June Love Lula Beauty Box, and thought it was so good to have a variety of brands, products, and price ranges represented in the collection.  I will definitely be buying more of the Walden perfume oils, and I am excited to poke around the ranges from the other brands online in the next few weeks as well.  Plus, the next box will be on its way soon, so I cannot wait to see what is inside -- it is my birthday month, so I am hoping for something exceptional!!

If you are interested in subscribing to the Love Lula Beauty Box, you can join at any point, but remember that if you sign up after the first of the month you will not receive that month's edit -- you will instead receive the next edition (so if you join in July, you get August).  You can choose from a month to month rolling subscription, or a pre-pay if you want a longer term option!

And as always, let me know what you thought of this month's box in the comments down below.  Did you like the variety?  What was your favourite product included?  I can't wait to see all your opinions!

  4. For the price of this box (I had to go check it out), it's pretty amazing quality for what is within. I haven't actually heard of any of these brands except REN, but I love boxes where you get full sized products rather than tons of samples :)
