The Cruelty Free Beauty Box: June 2018

I was so happy when I was sent the June collection from The Cruelty Free Beauty Box, as I was so sad when I made the decision to temporarily pause my subscription (have to save up for our upcoming trip to my family in WNY!).  And I have to say, when I opened the box I was so grateful that I did not miss out on this edition -- the whole box is perfectly suited to me and my love of all natural beauty!

With five summer-inspired products, one of which was an exclusive pre-release, The Cruelty Free Beauty Box has once again delivered on size, value, and quality, and this month has to be one of my favourites of the subscription so far this year.  The June box includes four full size items and one sample pot, and has an overall value of more than £47!

So what was inside?  Well, the lovely Evolve Organic Beauty and the fabulous Pure Purpose has made another appearance, along with the well-received Delune that featured in the May edit.  Another one of my favourites is also back -- Friendly Soap!  Plus, Johnny Concert, a new name for both the box and for myself.  I was really pleased with the variety of brands, as well as the items themselves.

Pure Purpose Natural Deodorant Cream in Lemon Breeze:

"The creamy consistency allows for easy fingertip application.  The bicarbonate of soda inhibits bacterial growth and results in a long lasting freshness, shea butter and coconut oil moisturise the skin, with vitamin E to prevent skin irritation.  Massage gently a pea-sized amount onto the clean underarm area until its absorbed."

Pure Purpose is a UK based green beauty brand that creates simple but effective products including a delicious smelling coffee body scrub, a lava wrap face mask, and an anti-aging facial oil.  They have appeared in The Cruelty Free Beauty Box once before in November last year, and I was excited to see one of their new products included in the June box.

I have tried my share of natural deodorants (spoiler -- full post in the works!), and I have to say I was really happy with how Pure Purpose's cream stood up to the competition.  The consistency is smooth with only the slightest graininess, and the scent is so refreshing!  I love the zesty citrus burst and think it is the absolute best smell for summer.  I also found it was really effective, and for me it lasts the whole day.  I didn't have to do a 'top up' like I need to with some other natural deos, and I didn't experience any irritation, even in this heat wave!  Do be aware the deo does contain bicarb, so those with sensitive underarms will really want to do a patch test before fully applying.

Ingredients: Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Sodium Bicarbonate, Zea Mays (Corn Starch), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Citrus Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Limonene.

Delune Dry Body Oil Mist in Mandarin:

"Give your skin an instant moisture boost and radiant look with this hydrating dry body oil.  Formulated with nourishing Almond and Golden Jojoba oil and the anti-oxidant Vitamin E to help smooth and hydrate, leaving your skin feeling irresistibly soft. This unique formula absorbs fast, allowing you to get dressed immediately.  This works even better when you're fresh out of the shower, spray onto your still wet skin and watch the oil turn into a milky lotion that soaks right in - For body use Only."

I discovered Delune Paris for the first time in the May edit of The Cruelty Free Beauty Box, and I have been impressed with their products twice now.  The brand is dedicated to providing low cost, high quality products that are free from artificial fragrance, phenoxyethonal (yay!), parabens, and other skin irritants.  Well, the dry body oil mist certainly delivers on that promise - the consistency is unique, not an oil and not a lotion, but rather a very thin milky liquid.  The smell reminds me of my grandma (in a really nice and memorable way) and is lightly citrusy with a hint of herbs.  I have been using this mist on my legs, and I will say it is lovely straight after the shower and give a little moisture boost while also working to calm the nerves.

Ingredients: Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Sweet Almond Oil, Capric Triglycerides, Jojoba Seed Oil, Polysorbate 80 (Plant Origin), Apricot Kernel Oil, Squalane, Avocado Oil, Babassu, Castor Seed Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Tocopherol, Mandarin Essential Oil, Orange Peel Essential Oil, Lime Essential Oil, Basil Essential Oil

Johnny Concert Amplified Eyeshadow in Desert Trap:

"Johnny Concert makeup is freshly crafted using only the finest skin soothing botanicals, natural and certified organic ingredients.  They strictly avoid using harsh chemicals, synthetic FD&C dyes & cheap toxic fillers! These beautiful eyeshadows have a wet/dry formula allowing you to have even more fun creating the perfect look.  Simply apply with a clean damp brush for added colour intensity."

Johnny Concert is a cruelty free and vegan brand from the US, and I was excited to try out a name that is brand new to me.  While I don't usually go for dark eyeshadow shades, Desert Trap is stunning and I can see myself using this as an accent colour, a bold eyeliner, or *gasp* maybe even for a smokey eye attempt.  The formula is really smooth and has both great pigment and a gorgeous shimmer -- perfect for a summer glow!

Friendly Soap Shea Butter Facial Cleansing Bar:

"Made from just 3 Ingredients, this Cleansing Bar creates a smooth, creamy lather & can be used on even the most delicate skin - Suitable for all skin types."

Another UK green beauty business, Friendly Soap makes a wide range of shampoo bars, hand soaps, body soaps, shaving bars, and cleansing bars.  All of them have minimal packaging and there is never any plastic in sight which is fantastic in my opinion.

I adore Friendly's charcoal soap, as I find it the best exfoliating bar I have tried -- the texture is perfect (a little scratchy which is ideal for exfoliating) and the formula is super effective.  Because of this, I had high hopes for the shea butter bar, and I was not disappointed.  The soap lathers beautifully, yet there is no harsh sulphates -- no SLS, ALS, or anything of the sort, just plant based surfactants.  Plus, the bar is fragrance free, so it is incredibly gentle on your skin and causes no irritation.  I was worried the shea butter would be too heavy on my skin, but I haven't had any issues with congestion or spots which was a huge relief!  I am not sure this will replace my usual gel cleansers, but I adore the hydration this gives, so I will continue to use on the drier areas of my face.

Ingredients: Butyrospermum parkii butter, Sodium olivate, Sodium cocoate, Aqua

Evolve Organic Beauty Hyaluronic Eye Complex:

"Exotic Tuberose flower plant stem cells help to reduce the appearance of eye bags, fine lines, and puffiness while firming and brightening the delicate eye area.  Hyaluronic acid, known for its ability to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, making the skin look younger with an improved skin tone, whilst cucumber extract cools and soothes."

Evolve is a British beauty brand that makes a huge range of green goodies, from skincare to haircare.  I have used several of their items before, and the quality has always been exceptional, so I knew I was in for a treat with the hyaluronic eye complex.  Warning -- when you go to open this little sample pot, be aware that the formula is a LIQUID.  Even gently untwisting the cap resulted in a fair amount spilling out.  I tried to rescue it and applied it immediately, but it was a surprise since the jar is only 5ml to start with.  However, the remaining product turned out to be great, and it worked well even with my sensitive eyes.  Creamy eye products tend to leave me breaking out in little spots, so I was pleased that this water and aloe based formula didn't cause any trouble.  I personally do not have any fine lines or bags under my eyes, but I have noticed they look a little brighter -- I will keep using this until it runs out, and if it continues to show as much promise as my initial trial I think I will buy a full size to try!

Ingredients: Aqua (water), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water*, Glycerin*, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract*, Sodium Hyaluronate, Polianthes Tuberosa Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder*, Amorphophallus Konjac Root Powder, Sodium Levulinate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Anisate, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate. *ingredients from organic farming

Overall, this is the happiest I have been with The Cruelty Free Beauty Box February as I can and will use every single item in the box.  I love the focus on all natural ingredients in this month, and am so excited that I have been introduced to another new brand.  I'm thinking of this as a pre-birthday treat, and it has seriously got me excited for summertime and for July (birthday month!!).

If you are interested in subscribing to The Cruelty Free Beauty Box, you can sign up for a rolling month to month option, a 3 or 6 month pre-pay, or even a one off box.  Prices start at £14, and there is an average saving of £30+ for every collection.  Plus, by supporting TCFBB you are also supporting the safety of our fur friends -- what better incentive is there?  And if you didn't subscribe for the June edition and you are keen to try any of the products, you can find them over in The Cruelty Free Beauty Shop!

As always, let me know what you think of this month's edit in the comments below, and tell me what your favourite addition was in the June box!  Plus, let me know your thoughts on all natural cruelty free products -- do you use them regularly?  Is this a first for you?  I would love to hear your experiences!

  1. I'm glad the Shea butter wasn't too heavy for your skin. I have the same worry with Shea butter, but it's beautiful in body lotions! I need to try out that Delune Body Oil Mist. Mandarin is my fav!
