The Ultimate Ethical Gift Guide 2021 written in a green circle with red border

I'm covering every area, and at every price range, though this year I tried to prioritize more accessible products as I know budgets are tighter than usual still.  I promised an Ultimate Ethical Christmas Gift Guide, and I'm delivering!

I hope this roundup offers you help in your present search and shopping, and maybe you can even add a few extras to your own Christmas wishlist.  Either way, if you like something you see here, just follow the link to find the listing, or if you want to learn more you can find past reviews here on the blog!

And if you have been very very good and find yourself on Santa's Nice List, you may just end up with a special treat at the end of this post...  Be sure to stick around to the very end so you can learn all about this year's 12 Days of Giveaways and how you can take part.  Plus, discover where you can read all about the featured brands and prizes - it's something you don't want to miss!

**Keep in mind, there are definitely other products from brands that have made an impression on me this year -- these are just some that have really stuck out and I think would make exceptional gifts to loved ones (even those who may not be super interested in ethical living!)

So without further ado, these are ethical gifts specially chosen for...

Stocking Stuffers:

  • Shroot Christmas Greens Greetings (£ - V)
Sure, sweets are nice, but why not choose a healthy and eco friendly option for the stockings this year?  Shroot offer adorable greetings that give a DIY project, snack, and festive feeling all in one little packet!  It's more than a card...  It's a plant that will keep on giving!  With easy to follow instructions and no green thumb required, this cute stocking stuffer will grow nutritious microgreens in just ten days.  It's the perfect project for the holiday season, and is bound to be an unexpected but very much welcome treat.

  • Thought Sustainable Socks (£ - O, VO)
Want a sustainable twist on a classic stocking stuffer?  Go with Thought!  I always see these for sale at local Christmas markets, and this year I finally picked up a pair.  I couldn't be happier!  These are pretty affordable, super cute (I got the Marey Bookworm design which is very me), made with eco friendly materials (my pair uses bamboo and organic cotton), and are really well made.  They have a comfortable fit which is hard to find, and there are so so so many choices that you are bound to find the perfect pick for your friends and family.

  • Fair Squared Zero Waste Hairbands (£ - O, V, LW)
Stocking stuffers in my family tend to be practical for the most part, and I think that including staples like hairbands is such a great idea.  Everyone will be happy with a solid set of accessories, and the Fair Squared hair ties are a high quality and low waste option that will have the planet and your giftee smiling.  Made with organic cotton and fairtrade natural rubber, these black bands are gentle on the hair and match every outfit.  They're really sturdy too, so will last for ages (unlike those cheap supermarket ones that snap in minutes and then head to landfill -- yikes!).

The Charitable Giver:
Every year I feature a selection of non-gift gifts that have a positive impact on the world and are ideal for those who aren't looking for more 'stuff' -- and this holiday season I have got three fab charitable causes that you can treat your loved ones with...
  • Global Care Solar Lamp Sponsorship (£)
When Global Care reached out to me, I knew this would be a great fit for The Charitable Giver category.  Not only is this scholarship helping people in need and reducing their financial burden, but it is attempting to establish sustainable solutions for communities who don't really have eco friendly options accessible to them.  This alternative gift supplies a family in Uganda with a solar lamp.  This offers them a stable and affordable light source, plus it reduces the need for kerosene.  Global Care also state that "just 20 of these lamps will offset a year of flights for our UK team" meaning it helps offset carbon emissions too!  You'll get a postcard to send a note to the family being helped, and you'll help spread light this holiday season.

  • Selva Subscription (£)
Are you gifting to someone who is big on green living?  A subscription to Selva could be the perfect alternative gift this year!  Simply answer five quick questions and this service will tailor a package to offset your carbon emissions.  How?  By planting trees!  Selva is involved with several reforestation projects, and you can choose which one to contribute to.  Choose from forestry initiatives in Madagascar, Senegal, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and India, and offset your environmental impact at the same time!

  • WWF Adopt an Animal (£)
Animal lovers unite!  This alternative gift is ideal for those worried about wildlife, as your donation works to protect habitats and lives.  The WWF has a wide range of 'adoption' packages, including elephants, penguins, pandas, leopards, and more.  You have the option to get an adorable cuddly toy, plus will receive a welcome pack, regular updates, and a certificate to recognize your contribution.  It's super affordable, and each adoption helps fight against poaching, monitor the animals, and fund essential projects that protect the endangered animals.

The Gift Box Guru:

  • Green N White For You Bar Lovers Box (££ - V, LW)
Calling all low waste lovers -- this box is definitely one that will lead to smiles on Christmas morning.  Green N White have curated a selection of sustainable beauty staples, including eco friendly shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, moisturiser, soap, and more!  This edit is loaded with handmade treatments, and it is perfect for anyone who is wanting to reduce plastic waste or just loves a bit of a pamper.  Bursting with essential oils and made with the goal of making skin and hair healthy, the Bar Lovers Box is a gift that keeps on giving.

  • Go Ethical Smart Swaps Box (££ - V, PF)
Go Ethical has crafted the ultimate sustainable box with their Smart Swaps edit, and the fact that they feature UK small businesses is the icing on top of the cake.  Packed full of ethical and eco friendly goodies, this collection includes at least two full size products (and an average of four) along with around 25% savings.  And even more exciting??  It can be purchased as a subscription meaning you can treat your loved ones time and again if you choose!  My box was seriously PERFECT.  As someone who has made all of the 'common' swaps, I was still surprised by new brands, innovative creations, and gorgeous goodies that I will use every week.

  • Sofia Latif The Mini Edit (££ - V)
Sofia Latif has featured in past gift guides, and for good reason.  This beautiful all natural brand is all about using the power of plants to create pro-ageing formulas that are gentle, effective, and simple to use.  And with The Mini Edit your friends and family can experience each of the nurturing treatments that this small business has crafted.  The set includes generous sample size bottles of everything in the core range: the award winning facial oil and eye oil, the lush body oil, and the soothing scalp oil (which is one of my personal favs!).  It has everything you need for a spa night in, and comes inside a luxurious black presentation box which really elevates the whole gift.  Pretty perfect, right?

The Fashionista:

  • Tentree Sustainable Jumper
If you know me, you'll know I am smitten with crewneck jumpers.  And why not??  They're cozy, warm, and can be so adorable and funny.  Plus, with Tentree you can rest assured that they are made ethically too!  I have quickly become a fan of Tentree and their range of organic and recycled clothing, and I think that anyone would be over the moon to receive one of their sustainably made jumpers.  I've been living in their Listen to the Trees Crew lately as it is so soft on the inside and the rich emerald colour is stunning.  The boxy fit is a great fit for my style, and it's something that will be worn year after year.  I'm also obsessed with their Constellation Crew which glows in the dark -- HOW COOL IS THAT?!

  • Plain and Simple Organic Cotton T-Shirt
A simple t-shirt goes a long way, and when it is as well thought out as the staple piece from Plain and Simple, it's bound to go down well!  This is not your average black tee...  Made with 100% organic cotton and not at all see through, this shirt is produced using renewable energy and has a lifetime warrantee.  If you ever feel it is worn out, send it back to get in store credit and Plain and Simple will then transform that used product into something totally new -- it's a circular design through and through.  The shirt has a slim fit and is so well constructed, and it will get a ton of wear since it can be mixed and matched with pretty much any outfit.  Best yet?  It's super affordable.

  • Reusable Period Pants
Yes, you read that right!  Sure, saying 'here are some underwear for when you're bleeding' may not seem super festive at first thought, but honestly these make such a great gift.  Not only are they something that will be used regularly for a long time, but they take away a lot of the stress that comes along with that time of the month.  It's a really good way of introducing sustainable swaps into someone's life in a really practical and easy to use way -- plus, some of the reusable period pants these day are actually super cute and comfortable!  I've been testing out a handful of different brands, and a new launch I think would be a fab treat this holiday season is from Ohne.  They've got loads of colours and fits, and the material is really soft too.

The Book Worm:

  • How to Love Your Laundry by Patric Richardson and Karin B. Miller (£)
I received this book ages ago, and it's one I certainly recommend for any bookworm, fashionista, and green-o-phile.  While learning about laundry doesn't seem like the most stimulating topic, it really does raise interesting points and is full of fantastic tips, tricks, and information that will keep you reading.  The hard back printing is really gorgeous, making it look great on the shelf as well as being a source of cleaning hacks and stress relieving solutions.

  • The Sustainable Book Club (£-££: V, PF)
I love a good book, but sometimes picking one out leaves me feeling a little lost as there are just so many choices.  Cue one of my favourite finds of the year: The Sustainable Book Club.  This service is one for all the readers out there, as it offers a hand crafted eco-friendly box that contains a mystery book as well as a selection of treats to give you the perfect cozy 'curled up with a good book' experience.  First you choose your base, opting for The Original, XL, Vintage, or a special holiday edition, then decide if you want a one off delivery or subscription, and finish off your order by selecting a genre (either fiction, non-fiction, or SURPRISE ME) - The Sustainable Book Club will take care of the rest!  Each box will include a book, handmade bookmark, something to sip, something to nibble, and an extra surprise - plus 10% of the purchase price is donated to charity!

  • Bosh! Simple Recipes. Amazing Foods. All Plants. by Henry Firth (££ - V)
This book is perfect for new vegans, lifelong vegans, foodies, students, and anyone who likes to eat delicious food - the Bosh! cookbook is loaded with great meal ideas, inspired recipes, and fab tips.  There are over 140 tempting treats to try inside this hardback book, and each and every one is plant based.  Whether you want to help someone kick start their Veganuary or just think it would be fun for them to try some new lunches, dinners, and snacks, this ethically minded book is a brilliant present for Christmas.

The Style Seeker:
  • Paguro Ocean Recycled Wood Gold Earrings (££ - V, PF)
Paguro have been a brilliant discovery for me this year, and I think that anything from their range would be a total hit this Christmas.  I am totally smitten with their recycled wood and gold earrings, and think they hit that perfect balance of unique and timeless.  The design is beautiful as it captures the colours and movement of the sea, and they are the perfect size - not too clunky or big and making a great accent to any outfit.  Handmade with offcuts of teak, redwood or oak that are salvaged from furniture factories, these sustainable earrings are truly something special.

  • Jana Reinhardt Tiny Cat Necklace (£££ - V, PF)
If you've been around The ecoLogical for a while, you will know I fell for Jana Reinhardt's jewellery earlier this year.  Their sustainable efforts are impressive, and I love that they use recycled metals, eco friendly packaging, and use ethical suppliers (that are RJC certified!).  Plus, their styles are so so so cute.  I am particularly fond of the tiny cat necklace as it is dainty and absolutely darling, and it fits my personality so well.  These pieces are fairly customizable as well, making it a great gift for anyone.

  • Etsy Sellers (£-££££)
Everywhere you go, there is bound to be some super skilled and creative small business that creates one of a kind pieces, so why not support them this year and gift a beautiful handmade necklace, bracelet, or ring?  You can find loads of jewelers (both online and IRL) who utilize repurposed and upcycled materials, ethical stones, and recycled metals, and the final products are so stunning.  I love the care and craft that goes into handmade items, and there is usually a great story to them as well which helps make a gift like this all the more special.  Some stand out Etsy sellers for me have to be Ellie (ethically sourced gemstone jewelry) and Eva Fay Design (clay earrings).

The Foodie:

  • Erbology Gut Health Foods Gift Set (££ - O, V, LW)
Health nuts will be well impressed if they open this certified organic bundle on Christmas day.  Gluten free, vegan, and non-GMO, this collection of gut healthy foods is good for you and kind to the planet too!  Erbology take a holistic approach and deliver the power of plants through accessible snacks - and their trio of microbiome boosting treats is such a good example of what this thoughtful company provide.  The Tigernut and Jerusalem Artichoke Granola is crunchy and so moreish in the morning or in a vegan yogurt bowl, the Organic Apricot Kernel Oil is versatile and is said to soothe inflammation, and the Organic Jerusalem Artichoke Powder is a totally unique product that is rich in inulin and fiber.  Everything is tasty, and this set is something that friends will find unexpected and memorable.

  • Remedy Newbie Taster Mixed Case (£ - V, LW)
I am a HUGE fan of Remedy kombucha, and I know that I for one would be thrilled to open up a giant box of their refreshing drinks this holiday season.  Delicious flavours and containing no sugar, it doesn't get much better than this...  EXCEPT IT DOES.  The Newbie Taster Mixed Case comes with four flavours of kombucha as well as their coconut kafir and blood orange switchel.  That's twelve cans of thirst quenching live-culture goodness all in one compact box!  It's a great way to test all the options and see which become favourites before committing.  Though if you're like me you mayyy have trouble picking just one or two.  This gift will excite foodies for sure, and it's a healthy treat to share this festive season.

  • Blue Coffee Box (£ - V, LW)
100% compostable packaging?  Direct trade model?  Ethically produced??  That's right - this coffee has it all.  Blue Coffee Box works directly with co-operatives and farmers to source sustainable coffee that is then lovingly roasted in the UK.  They work to introduce customers to a variety of flavours, regions, and roasters, and do so in a way that will make even a sceptic fall in love with coffee.  You can choose from five options (ranging from whole bean to levels of ground) and tailor your preferences if you want to so you get your perfect cuppa.  Blue Coffee Box even has decaf available!

The Jetsetter:

  • Sho Reusable Bottle (££ - LW)
A reusable bottle is such a staple item, so if you know someone who hasn't made the transition to one yet this is your chance to gift it!  And a brand that will cater to all needs is Sho.  Their stainless steel bottles have a lifetime guarantee and come in a wide variety of sizes.  Choose between 260ml to a whopping 1.7l option, and pick your favourite colour -- it's that easy.  I love that they keep drinks hot and cold, and the fact that Sho donates 10% of profits to charity is a brilliant bonus.  I've been enjoying the Calix tumbler, Pacto glass, and Flexi mug for a while now, and while they aren't leak proof (they have sipping holes that stay open) each have impressed me with their vivid colours, insulating properties, and easily hand-washable materials.

  • PrimaBerry Sustainable Cork Notebook (£ - V, LW)
Whether you're shopping for a student, teacher, busy mum, or intrepid traveler, the sustainable cork notebooks from PrimaBerry will be a lovely present to jot down adventures, shopping lists, lesson notes, and story ideas.  This natural product is made using recycled paper and Portuguese cork, and they have the most ADORABLE designs on the cover.  I am so obsessed with the cat prints, as they are just too cute and funny - they really fit my personality, and I like how different they are.  These are such a great way to be eco friendly and stylish, and they will make great stocking stuffers or thoughtful gifts this festive season.

  • SeaForYourselfCo Reusable Bamboo Cutlery Set (£ - PF)
Another great eco friendly stocking stuffer or Secret Santa gift would be this super handy reusable bamboo cutlery set from SeaForYourselfCo.  Not only is this plastic free solution reducing waste, it comes in a travel friendly cotton pouch that is available in a variety of really beautiful designs.  I like how lightweight they are, and it's super easy to just grab and go.  With everything you might need for lunch out, this bamboo set contains a spoon, fork, knife, straws, and even a cleaning rod -- it's the full package!

The Homebody:

  • Silver Guard Bed Linen (££-££££ - V)
Bedding is a classic Christmas gift, and I think that it is one that everyone appreciates.  This year, why not treat your loved ones with luxurious cotton linens from Silver Guard?  Created with antimicrobial IONIC+ silver thread technology, these sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases are designed to be gentle on the skin and to provide a cleaner experience.  Anti-odour, thermoregulating, and super soft and smooth, this is bedding that has comfort and quality at its core.  It's made to last, and has such a crisp clean aesthetic that rivals even the finest hotels.

  • Gaia Sleep Spray (£ - V, LW)
Sometimes the holidays can be stressful, so why not help your loved ones unwind with a calming gift from Gaia.  Their handmade all natural sleep spray is bursting with blissful essential oils that will ease the mind and reduce tension.  With a dreamy blend of vertivert, lavender and marjoram, it's pretty much impossible not to feel better after breathing in the tranquil aroma.  The beautiful glass bottle and bamboo finishes make this natural wellbeing treatment stand out even more, and it makes for a gorgeous gift to open on Christmas day.

  • WelleCo Sleep Welle Calming Tea (££ - V, LW)
Speaking of soothing treatments, WelleCo are the perfect pick for an extra special calming gift this holiday.  I have never seen a tea that looks as high end and fabulous as this...  The glass caddy is stunning and will be perfect for repurposing once it is empty (though I suspect whoever you gift this to will be tempted to pick up the refills instead!).  The teabags are plastic free and unbleached, and the blend itself is divine.  Lemon balm, skull cap, valerian root, and passionflower make up the base of this sleep inducing drink, and it's so yummy that you will look forward to bedtime!

The Skincare Fiend:
Okay, so this is near impossible to limit to three choices, so I have cheated a bit and decided not to include anything I have reviewed on The ecoLogical this year for this category!  Even this proved tricky, as there are so many wonderful formulations I have loved this year - but I did my best and decided to just share three so no one is overwhelmed.  If you want more ideas for skincare and wish to discover my top picks for green beauty brands and full ranges to gift this year, head over to my previous gift guide.

  • Neve's Bees Natural Body Oil (£ - V, LW)
Looking for a luscious and lightweight body oil that will pamper skin all year round?  This vegan friendly formula leaves skin silky smooth plus it doubles as an aromatherapy treatment.  With no synthetics and a wealth of conditioning plant based ingredients (including apricot, argan, and jojoba oils), the natural body oil is gentle and a perfect present for someone in need of a pamper.  I'm especially loving the Bee Happy scent which is really comforting - it has a blend of grapefruit, jasmine, bergamot, sweet orange, and rose, making for a peace inducing and uplifting aroma that brings a smile to my face every time I massage the oil in.

  • Wildefruit Upcycled Bright Spark Enzyme Oil (£ - V, LW)
Shopping for a skincare fiend this year?  A face oil always goes down well, and this one from Wildefruit is sure to wow any beauty lover.  The brand uses ethically sourced, wild harvested, and upcycled ingredients to craft their all natural products, and the Bright Spark Enzyme Oil is jam packed with brightening and softening vegan friendly ingredients.  It's fragrance free, so it is super gentle on the skin and ideal for those with fussy faces, yet it smells lovely with a nutty and warm aroma that leaves you feeling grounded.  This oil will help heal breakouts and irritation, so it's a great choice for the end of the year when all the stress and snacks start to weigh on our skin.

  • Love Absolute Skincare Naked Rose Nutrition Cream (££ - O, V)
I've been a big fan of Love Absolute Skincare for a few years now, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that one of my top recommendations for skincare gifts is from their collection.  With the blustery winds and central heating wreaking havoc to skin, I think their Naked Rose Nutrition Cream would be a very welcome gift this Christmas.  Organic and English grown ingredients help set this stunner apart, and as it's rich in vitamin C and antioxidants plus contains naturally hydrating ingredients, it does a great job of revitalizing the complexion.  With a gorgeous scent of rose and a rich texture that sinks in nicely, this is a beautiful cream that will spread joy over the holidays.

The Eco-Starter:

  • Barnaby's Stainless Steel Toothbrush (£ - V, LW)
Tis the season to be jolly -- but don't forget to brush your teeth!  And with this sustainable toothbrush from Barnaby's Brushes, you can do so in style while also helping save the planet.  Did you know that one person can end up tossing around 60 toothbrushes every decade?  Well, with this eco friendly solution, that doesn't have to be the case anymore.   The toothbrush has a stainless steel handle that is designed to last a lifetime, and you only need to replace the heads.  It's weighty, high quality, and ideal for a little bundle of gifts for someone who is keen to practice greener living!

  • Indie Refillable Shampoo and Conditioner (££ - V, LW)
Another sustainable gift that would be perfect for someone starting their journey with eco living or who loves discovering new plastic free products would be the refillable shampoo and conditioner set from Indie.  Not only are these staples totally free from plastic, but they have been designed to be reused over and over again.  You get your 500ml starter bottle which looks super modern and luxurious, and then when you run out just order a plastic free refill pouch and top up the container!  They have a variety of formulas to choose from so you can tailor the treatment to your hair needs, and everything is vegan friendly, curly girl method approved, and leaves hair looking and feeling super healthy.

  • Object Plastic Free Cleansing Bar (£ - V, PF)
You know I love plastic free products, but I do find that certain beauty treatments struggle to perform when made into a solid or powder form.  Well, that's not the case with Object -- their plastic free goodies are properly effective and deliver results.  I've been so impressed by the cleansing bar which contains plant based ingredients like oat extract, avocado and jojoba oil along with natural essential oils.  It smells really fresh, lathers loads, and really makes your face feel super clean without being dry or tight.  If you are looking for an ethical and eco friendly gift for a skincare lover or green living guru this year, this is one to check out!

The Makeup Junkie:

  • Ere Perez Chamomile Eyeshadow Palette (££ - V)
An eyeshadow palette is a great gift for makeup lovers, and when it comes to natural makeup you can't get much better than Ere Perez.  Their vegan friendly collection has become a favourite of mine this year, and I really enjoy their pigmented formulas.  The Chamomile Eyeshadow Palette is such a compact and versatile option, with a built in mirror and a great mix of shades.  There are six colours in this natural eyeshadow palette - three matte and three shimmer - and all are perfect for creating neutral tone looks.  I love how gentle the formula is, and the fact that this palette is refillable makes it even more special.

  • Madara Cosmic Drops Buildable Highlighter (££ - V, LW)
Madara are such a great natural beauty brand, and their makeup collection has certainly impressed me since it launched a few years ago.  I am totally obsessed with their liquid highlighters, and I think any makeup lover would be thrilled to open this gift on Christmas day.  The vegan friendly formula is super buildable, and the mix of natural and organic ingredients helps hydrate the skin while also adding a gorgeous glow to the complexion.  There are four colours to choose from, and each one is radiant in its own unique way.  You can pick and mix or even get the full set for your loved ones!

  • Maiiro Organic Lip Salve (££)
This is not your average lip balm.  From the packaging to the results, everything about the Maiiro lip salve is special and makes for a luxurious gift this festive season.  The Guernsey based brand creates products inspired by the sea and uses foraged seaweed in their treatments.  Their special blend of Kelpogen5™ is rich in antioxidants and works as a skincare superfood - and that's part of what makes this lip salve so unique.  Tasteless, non-greasy, and designed to hydrate and restore the skin from within, this product is a perfect pick as a gift.
