When it comes to a cozy night's sleep, The Fine Bedding Company knows what's what.  Since 1912 they have been supplying bedtime essentials, and the business has grown to embrace a pretty great initiative - developing and supplying solution based products that are luxurious as well as conscious of their impact.

From the very first truly home washable duvet that fits in a domestic washing machine to fully traceable materials, The Fine Bedding Company has been consistently paving the way for sleepytime staples.  So it makes sense that I was interested in testing out a few things when they reached out to me!

I love testing greener alternatives and sustainable swaps so I can share what works and what doesn't, and when they are also pretty affordable I'm even more excited to spread the word.  And that's exactly what I'll be doing today in this review - giving the lowdown about The Fine Bedding Company, offering up all the information about their ECO range, and laying down my thoughts on comfort, price point, and ethics!

As you know, I've been slowly making changes to every area of my life over the last decade, and my latest focus is fabrics.  I'm very aware of the pros and cons of synthetic and natural fibers, and overall I like to opt for plant based products like bamboo, cotton, hemp, and flax.  This is simple enough for clothing when you learn what to look for, but other areas often present problems.

For example, when it comes to choosing bedding I find it is actually pretty tricky finding eco friendly options that are also vegan.  I personally don't love wool or down as it triggers my allergies (and irritated lungs and skin isn't ideal when trying to relax into dreamland!), plus it can be hard determining if these materials (as well as silk) were sourced without any stress or harm to the animals.

That's one thing I immediately appreciated about The Fine Bedding Company - if you are looking for a feather based product but worried about the cruelty free status they guarantee to enforce regular audits of suppliers to ensure there is not no live plucking, no force feeding, and that materials are by-products of the food industry.  They even have the certification to back it up!  And for those of us looking to skip any animal based products, they have an answer for us too with a selection of duvets, pillows, toppers, and protectors that are made with their special blend of manmade fibers.

Normally I would skip synthetics entirely, but when the business informed me that they had an ECO range and made their products in a factory that utilizes 100% renewable energy I knew I had to look into it.  What are these actually made from, why are they labeled as eco, and are these something I would be comfortable recommending?  Well, buckle up and get ready to find out!

The Fine Bedding Company holds four pillars of sustainability that guide their business practices.  They aim to make more sustainable products than competitors, and claim their "microfiber duvet fillings use 25% less polyester than similar competitor products" and that last year 38% of polyester used in their range came from recycled products.  They also place emphasis on responsible sourcing, stating they select suppliers that ensure fair working conditions and conduct ongoing audits to maintain this standard.  They also work to have a positive impact on the local community and economy where their factory is based in Estonia, and have even been awarded for this!  And when it comes to operations, The Fine Bedding Company says they aim to reduce their environmental foot print, and that their duvets "have a 19% lower carbon footprint than the industry standard" and that 90% of all waste is recycled.

So far so good!  But what about the range itself??

First, I want to say I was impressed with the packaging when everything arrived - they combined both pillows and the duvet into one large cardboard box that contained no excess plastic or filler as the products themselves serve as the cushioning for transit.  It was the perfect size parcel, and everything was recyclable.  As for the eco friendly bedding, well...

ECO Duvet:

"We transform plastic waste - that would otherwise end up in landfill - in to a luxuriously soft, light and fluffy fibre filling."

When it comes to duvets you need three things: soft and comforting outer feel, plush and cozy inner fill, and a breathable experience so you are not left too hot or cold.  The Fine Bedding Company has achieved it all, but with one special difference - they utilize recycled materials to do it all!

Made with 100% Microfibre and Smartfil from recycled PET bottles, this duvet is turning trash into treasure.  I love when waste is repurposed in a way that gives it new life, especially when the item will be used for many years to come.  I don't know about you, but I love blankets and pillows until they are pretty much ragged, so this investment is one that will be with me for a long time meaning the bottles that would have gone to landfill are offering comfort long past their single use purpose.

Despite being made from fully recycled fibers, this is super soft and welcoming - you would be hard pressed to guess it was originally housed a soda.  Well, actually 120 sodas, as that's how many plastic bottles The Fine Bedding Company upcycles to create this product!  The duvet is super soft and silky so if you don't have a cover on hand you will still feel totally blissed out, and the quilted panels help disperse the cushy inner lining perfectly so no matter which side of it you snuggle you will be treated to a lush experience.

The Fine Bedding Company has created several sizes to choose from as well as two different tog options, so no matter what sort of sleeper you are and no matter what time of year it is you can find comfort.  The Eco Duvet comes as a single, double, king, or super king, and you can pick from either the summer style of 4.5 tog or the cold weather 10.5 tog.  Each is super cost efficient, and I love that the difference between the smallest and largest sizes isn't too much meaning everyone can enjoy this greener living alternative no matter their budget.

Since we have a winter duvet already, I chose the lighter one, but even this is great at keeping a temperature that will have you feeling peaceful all night long.  The stitching is really good quality, and the seams come together so well - it really makes you feel like your own bedroom is a five star hotel!

I find this duvet really lovely, and the fact that it is machine washable at 30 degrees is a huge plus too.  That being said, I find it hard to fit into my Guppyfriend bag, and since it is made with microfibers (albeit recycled ones), this is sort of a must to ensure no plastics are making their way into the water supplies.  This was the only downside for me, but I am sure a workaround can be found!

ECO Pillow:

"Good sleep is our passion but we also take care to produce responsibly. The quilted Eco pillow transforms plastic waste, that would otherwise end up in landfill, into a luxuriously light and fluffy Smartfil® Eco fibre filling, encased in super soft recycled fabric."

From shelf to sleep - that's what The Fine Bedding Company delivers with these Eco Pillows!  The outer fabric and plush fill bring next level comfort while also providing a more sustainable swap for sleepytime.  I mean, what other pillows do you know that are this luxurious AND made from recycled plastics??

Like the Eco Duvet, these repurpose waste destined for landfill and transform them into a super soft creation that will have you looking forward to resting your head every evening.  They take 27 bottles and spin them into their special Smartfil fibres - like recycling wizards or an upcycling fairy, The Fine Bedding Company has certainly hit a home run with this idea.

This has a similar quilted quality to the duvet, and it's just as cozy and soft.  Plus, it is also machine washable at 30 degrees, and since this fits much more nicely into my Guppyfriend bag I'm not so worried about the care as I can rest assured that any fibers that remove during the cycle are being trapped tight.  Win!

Both Tim and I have been totally wowed by these pillows, and have noticed we are sleeping much more soundly and easily since introducing them into our lives.  I am quite fussy about pillows, as I want support without it being too stiff or bulky while also desiring a featherlike plushness that isn't too limp or squishy.  The Eco Pillow from The Fine Bedding Company is like my three little bears moment, as it really is just right!  I love how it elevates my neck enough without it feeling any strain and it is plump but lets my head sink into it like a little cloud.  My perfect pillow at last.

And with this being allergy friendly too (at least to my experience) I'm breathing more easily too.  I really don't have anything bad to say about these Eco Pillows and am really pleased I got to try them out.  The Fine Bedding Company has definitely won over two new fans!

Overall I've been well impressed by The Fine Bedding Company, especially considering these more sustainable swaps are so affordable.  I mean, it's hard enough finding a high quality duvet under £100 but finding one that is designed to be more eco friendly that starts at just £40?!?  That's something to get excited about.

But what do you think?  Is bedding made from recycled bottles something you would be interested in?  If not, why??  I personally like that The Fine Bedding Company is making an effort to keep plastics out of landfill and the ocean and repurposing trash into products that will last many years to come, but I want to know what your thoughts are! xx
