Happy Planet Box: Spring 2021 Review

Searching for a natural, cruelty free, and vegan friendly subscription that reduces waste and offers sustainable swaps?  Happy Planet Box offers seasonal edits that are conscious of your health and kind to the environment.  See what the Spring collection brings in this special review of the latest launch!

Happy Planet Box Spring 2021 edit including five haircare and wellbeing products from Fushi, Beauty Kubes, Teasup, Alter/Native, and Zero Waste Club

Happy Planet Box is a quarterly subscription that I have shared about several times before, and it is one I highly recommend for those wanting an ethical treat at the start of each season.  Launched by online eco retailer The Evolution last year, this bundle of green goodies promises to deliver a hand picked selection of treatments that are perfect for the weather and spirit of that time of year.  From lip scrubs and chocolates to facial oils and soaps, you can usually expect a bit of everything in Happy Planet Box!

That being said, the Spring edit has brought something special - the very first fully themed version for the service!  That's right, this one has been curated to include all things haircare!!

With four fab hair treatments and one wellbeing treat that is refreshing as well as packed full of antioxidants, Happy Planet Box brings customers the perfect picks to get their winter damaged hair back into shape and ready for the rest of the year.  Every main item is full size, the set has been tailored to your specific hair and skin type so it is the perfect fit for you, and there is a complete routine included which is brilliant.  And the best thing about it all??  There is not a scrap of plastic to be found in this collection of sustainable swaps.

Beauty Kubes Sensitive Shampoo plastic free cubes all stacked in a box

Beauty Kubes Shampoo - Sensitive:

The first step to reclaiming luscious healthy locks is using a shampoo that is gentle on the hair and designed to cleanse and revitalize.  That's just what Beauty Kubes promises with their uniquely formulated treatments.  This award winning brand offers a great selection of hair and bodycare products that are palm free and created with intention, and with five different options to choose from when washing your hair you are bound to find the one that works for you.  There is an option for different hair types, a box for men (for those who find they still need a gender assigned to their personal care products *sigh*), and even a multi-tasking variety that can tackle both skin and hair.

I have tried the Normal/Dry formula before and loved it, so I was thrilled to find a box inside the spring Happy Planet Box delivery.  I received the shampoo for sensitive skin in this edit which is a great fit for me as my scalp and face are much more fussy and prone to irritation than other areas of my body.  No Beauty Kubes product contains harsh sulphates, but the Sensitive Shampoo takes it a step further and is fragrance free plus packed full of soothing and restorative ingredients like coconut milk, mustard seed, passionflower seed, and chickweed herb.  It's a fusion that eases dry and itchy skin, moisturizes, and powers up the hair with omegas and fatty acids.

I personally love Beauty Kubes as they are so easy to use, long lasting (I find my thin hair only needs half of a cube, meaning this one box lasts 54 washes), and effective.  They clean your hair without exaggerating any issues like brittleness or dehydration, and the fact they are plastic free and made with 64% organic ingredients is like icing on top of the cake!

Alter/Native Conditioner Bar in Coconut & Argan Oil with ylang ylang held up in front of a jukebox

Alter/native Coconut & Argan Oil Conditioner Bar:

Alter/native has been featured in Happy Planet Box previously, and as I enjoyed the handmade soap from the launch box of course I was happy to try another bar.  This time customers were treated to a solid conditioner that is free from harsh sulphates like SLS and SLES and contains minimal ingredients.  This plastic free treatment is ideal for those looking to cut down on packaging but still want a TLC treatment post-shampoo.

My box included the Deeply Nourishing Coconut & Argan Oil formula which contains ylang ylang , cocoa butter, castor oil, coconut milk, and argan.  I was so excited to find that coconut oil was nowhere to be found on the list as this meant it would be suited for my congestion prone skin and my hair type too - despite its cult status as a fix all, I find coconut oil wrecks my hair and skin leaving it spotty and feeling like straw, so the fact this conditioner opts for replenishing plant based ingredients over the easy and cheap option makes me really happy.

The bar itself is a great size and fits your hand comfortably which makes it easier to use in the shower.  One of my favourite things about it though is the scent - it is so moreish!  Alter/Native has hit the perfect level of uplifting and calming with this ylang ylang aroma, and it is so juicy, fanciful, and dreamy.  I adore the smell, and I look forward to conditioning my hair everyday so I can enjoy the delicate notes!  And the soft and smooth feeling it gives just makes it all the more wonderful.  It doesn't leave your hair feeling too heavy or looking oily, and gives a great boost that works to make everything healthy and lush.  Definitely a great discovery!

Fushi Really Good Hair Oil on top of wine corks on a blue and white patterned tea stand

Fushi Really Good Hair Oil:

After months of central heating, frigid air, and low humidity, hair needs a lot of care to get it back to how it was before the winter hit.  That's why I was so pleased to find Happy Planet Box included a follow up to deeply condition and strengthen - the Fushi Really Good Hair Oil!  Fushi is a brand I am familiar with and I know that their products are always made with the best quality oils and butters so my expectations for this certified organic hand blended treatment were high.

Well, it certainly met them!  The Really Good Hair Oil is ideal for multi-tasking and can work as a hot oil scalp treatment, pre-wash conditioner, overnight mask, frizz tamer, styling product, scalp massage oil, or quick repair.  The 99% organic combination of sesame seed, coconut, avocado, sweet almond, argan, brahmi, neem, and vitamin E are blended together to offer an intensive moisture and shine formula that leads to stronger and healthier hair.

Unfortunately coconut oil and I just don't get on, so this is one I have to limit to just the ends of my hair.  Despite that, I find myself becoming really attached to this Fushi creation as the magical scent of jasmine is so stunning and makes me feel relaxed and taken care of.  I love how soft and fragrant it is, and the oil has been great for minimizing the damage done by central heating and reducing breakage.  Overall a great addition to the spring edit, and one I am happy to have experienced.

Zero Waste Club bamboo comb brushing through red wavy hair

Zero Waste Club Bamboo Hair Comb:

What hair care routine is complete without a brush?  Happy Planet Box has tied this whole collection together with a travel friendly plastic free comb that can fit in your pocket or be packed up in your carry on luggage making it great for on the go.  And with so many people hoping for a holiday sometime this year, it is definitely a perfect fit for the edit!

I honestly don't brush my hair that often as it takes out my natural waves, but I'm happy to have a travel comb for hair-mergencies or times when I need to tame the mane.  Made with sustainable and biodegradable bamboo, the comb has fine teeth to suit a wide range of hair types and is super lightweight so it can be brought anywhere and everywhere.  It has been designed to be super durable and reusable while still being affordable, and Zero Waste Club plants a tree for every comb sold.  I love the balance of budget friendly price point and sustainable initiatives, and it's such a great staple piece that I think Happy Planet Box totally hit the nail on the head with this one.

three plastic free pyramid teabags from Teasup in the flavour White Tea & Mango

Teasup White Tea & Mango:

Time for tea!  White tea that is, as the latest delivery includes three bags of Teasup's White Tea & Mango blend.  And this is certainly a delicious cuppa - just take a look!

"This favourite is a combination of beautifully smooth and delicate Fujian white tea with the aromatic mango, and the two go together in a winning combination in which the astringency of the white tea is perfectly complemented by the tropical notes of the mango. We love it!"
The tea smells incredible, and as someone who actually hates mango that's saying a lot.  It has a slight vanilla tang to it that gives it a creamy smooth quality, but the gentle fruits make it tropical and sunny which make it ideal for moving out of the dark winter months.  Plus, white tea is said to be great for skin and hair health as it is bursting with antioxidants.  Some studies suggest that this can help hair loss or boost hair growth, so I think this is a fab treat to include in the collection.
