Small Batch Beauty - Nudge Boutique Review

Calling all skincare lovers - Nudge Boutique has got a natural lineup that you won't want to miss!

Nudge Boutique is a Norfolk based green beauty brand that specializes in hair and skin products that will nourish and soothe thanks to the plant based ingredients within each formulation.  Founder Jo created her products with the wellbeing in women in mind, and I find her mission so inspiring and relatable:

"As a woman in midlife, I have moved beyond  fear based anti-ageing messages and prefer gentle nudges that inspire me to make the most of who I am at the age that I am at.  This is how I run my brand.
As a mother and grandmother, legacy is important to me. I give back to children born with facial differences, so that they may learn to grow with a confident and healthy self image."

Not only are all of the products from Nudge Boutique totally natural, they are also vegan friendly, cruelty free, and made in small batches with love, dedication, and a huge amount of skill.  Plus, you will be surprised by just how unique these creations prove to be!

I have been sent a selection of green goodies to try out from the Nudge Boutique range, and I am so thankful for the chance to delve into a brand that has been on my radar for some time now.  I have been testing out their super Saffron Glow Facial Oil Serum as well as their Shampoo Tabs for normal/dry hair types for about a month now, and I'm so excited to finally share my thoughts!

Saffron Glow Facial Oil Serum
Dry skin sufferers rejoice, for Saffron Glow Facial Oil Serum is a product that delivers a powerful punch of moisture that will leave your skin feeling restored in no time.

This deeply nourishing formula contains a host of healing ingredients, including virgin prickly pear, organic rosehip, blackcurrent seed, vegan squalane, carrot seed CO2, oat kernel, jojoba, and sunflower.  Not only does this lock in hydration and moisture thanks to the special blend, but it also works to brighten skin and even out your complexion thanks to the addition of saffron stigmas and essential oils like sweet orange, neroli, rosemary, and lemon.  This is definitely a glow boosting and regenerative product, and one that dry, mature, and dull skin will thrive with.

Nudge Boutique - Saffron Glow Facial Oil Serum Review

The lush golden hue is like a summer sunset that gently kisses the earth and it definitely captures the nurturing glow it delivers.  This is a comforting experience through and through, and everything from the colour to the scent works to envelop you with nature's embrace.  I mean, the aroma is just so invigorating, with a grounding and uplifting smell that has herbal spice at the forefront with soft delicate citrus beneath the surface that delivers a brightening boost for the senses.  It's different, and a blend you really need to try to grasp how unique it really is.

Texture wise, this is silky smooth and ultra nourishing.  As you know, my skin is pretty prone to congestion, so I admit I was a little uncertain how my face would react to the Saffron Glow Facial Oil Serum.  This has a rich decadent consistency that is both luxurious as well as intensive, and it is heavier than what I am used to.  That being said, it does absorb well and I found my skin fared well with no blemishes.  For me, that's a total win.  And the natural glow after application is great - it has a dewy finish that makes the skin look revived and youthful, and I definitely noticed a difference in my complexion with regular use.

I do think for summer it is a bit too much for me daily, however I have been LOVING it as an after sun treatment and as an overnight repair product.  It soothes my skin, leaves it feeling replenished and really soft, and I notice that the next day it feels far less tight than it normally would after a long time outdoors.  Plus, I'm already looking forward to using this in the winter months as I can tell it will be a total hero come the windy and wet weather!

Nudge Boutique Shampoo Tabs Review

Normal/Dry Hair Shampoo Tabs
You've probably heard of shampoo bars, but have you ever seen a shampoo tablet??  Well, Nudge Boutique has had the innovative idea to reduce waste even further by sizing down the product into an ergonomic design that actually minimizes shrinkage.  Every time you use a bar, it gets wet and dissolves.  By producing smaller tablets, there is less shampoo going down the drain!

The savings don't stop there either - on average, just 2.5 plastic free tabs (~50g) is equal to one normal size 60g bar, and each tablet provides around 10-12 washes.  So, a single pack (which contains a pair of tablets) should last around 20-24 treatments.  If you're like me, cleansing your hair just once or twice a week, that is a LONG time for such an affordable shampoo to last.  That's some formulating magic!

There are four varieties of shampoo tablets to choose from in the Nudge Boutique range: Orange & Shikakai, Geranium & Lavender, May Chang & Pink Grapefruit, and Rosemary & Peppermint.  The first two are ideal for normal/dry hair, whereas the latter two are perfect for combination/oily types.  Since my hair is pretty brittle still from excess stress, I opted for the orange and pink labels as I am definitely in need of a gentle and replenishing touch when it comes to my long locks.

The Geranium & Lavender tabs are the first I tried out, as I was immediately drawn to their calming aroma and super cute pink aesthetic.  I have tried shampoo bars previously, and am an active natural and plastic free shampoo user so I wasn't worried about a transition period, but for anyone who is new to this type of product I have been told that these don't have the usual wait times involved with hair adjusting thanks to the pH balanced formulation - it's not soap, it's like liquid in solid form!  That being said, I still was in for a surprise...

These tablets are SUPER bubbly.  Many shampoo bars do not foam up as much, or if they do I find them pretty drying.  Nudge Boutique has perfected solid shampoo, giving the perfect amount of lather while still ensuring your locks are totally looked after.  I found I could thoroughly and easily cleanse my entire head without wondering if I had missed any spots, and the blend of french pink clay and calamine powder really work to remove buildup without irritating the scalp.  And it barely dented the tab I was using!  I also find the scent really soothing too, with relaxing notes of delicate florals that really ease the mind and let you have a moment of peace while you wash away the day.

Nudge Boutique Shampoo Tabs Review

After trying the pink tabs, I decided to switch over to the orange ones to see how they performed.  The Orange & Shikakai formula is just as lovely, with mandarin orange vibes that shine through as soon as you open the packet.  It's so welcoming and familiar, with just enough zest to uplift your mood and energize your mind.  It's the perfect blend of citrus with a soft creaminess lingering beneath - I love it!

Expect just as many bubbles from this version, as well as lovely refreshed hair.  The orange tabs are designed to boost vibrancy, volume, shine, and healthy hair growth with the help of the staple base of coconut powder and glycerin as well as the addition of cocoa powder, shikakai, and essential oils.  So far I can say that I have noticed my locks are looking clean, feeling light and bouncy, and definitely are taken care of!  It would be tough to pick a favourite, but I think the bright aroma just tips this one over for me - I just find it so positive and helps add some major happy vibes to my day.

*Perfum: Orange Essential Oil blend (10 fold - a blend of essential oils and natural aroma components).

Nudge Boutique Review - Saffron Glow Facial Oil Serum, Shampoo Tabs

I have really been pleased with my initial experience with Nudge Boutique, and I am so happy I finally had a chance to try out some of their green goodies.  I was especially wowed by how great the shampoo tablets performed, and while I have been using natural shampoos (as well as plastic free alternatives like these tabs) for some time, I think the benefit of having no transition period would be a game changer if I was just starting out.  This is seriously special, and saves a lot of grief when changing over products!  For that, I have to applaud Nudge Boutique.

Their oil serum was also a lovely discovery, and I have been enjoying it as an after sun treatment and know it will be a great skin soother come the colder months.  Plus, the scent is just so unique that I can't help but think this is a stand out formulation.  It's so different from other products, and I love the local touch with the Norfolk saffron - it makes this all the more magical in my eyes.

If you are interested in small batch beauty and want to support a great small business, I highly recommend checking out Nudge Boutique.  They have so many gorgeous skin and hair treats in their range, you're bound to find something (or a LOT of somethings!) that you love.  Next on my list is probably the Saffron Glow Cleansing Clay Mask - it sounds like it would pair so well with the oil serum, plus I love a good detoxifying product!

What would be on your wishlist?  Is it the fab shampoo tabs, the Saffron Glow skin treatment, or are you eyeing up something else??  Let me know, as I'm always keen to hear what you are thinking! xx

  1. I really like the idea of a shower tab, products like this are becoming more popular as times moves on. I’ve got some soap which is similar, one tab and it dissolves as you wash your hands x

    1. Yes they really are which is fab! This does not dissolve after a single use and lasts for a long time actually :) The smaller size helps minimize waste plus it is great for those worried about plastic free shampoo since there is no transition period xx
