Mary Si Natural Skincare Review

Small business spotlights are such a joy to do, and today I'll be shedding some light on a vegan friendly brand that creates natural skincare that is environmentally safe and handcrafted to nourish and balance -- Mary Si!

We are in weird times right now, and while I'm feeling anxious and unsure, I'm trying to retain as much a sense of normalcy as possible.  So while I don't feel much like blogging or doing social media at the moment, I also want to keep sharing all the amazing brands out there that might be struggling during this pandemic.  Because small businesses are being hit hard by all of this, and I want to do what I can to help.

During the next few weeks (or longer) I will be featuring even more indie, startups, and artisan brands than ever before, highlighting products both on Instagram and here on The ecoLogical.

If any of the green goodies or founders' stories resonate with you or catch your attention, it would be great if you could show your support as well.  You can buy direct from the brand, gift products to your loved ones to help lift their spirits, pass on their page/website to help promote them, share these reviews to generate more interest, interact with them on social media, or just show them your appreciation by writing to them and letting them know you like what they are doing.  Every little thing can help.

Mary Si Natural Skincare Review

About Mary Si:

Mary Si is a Birmingham based beauty brand dedicated to ethically sourced plant based ingredients that are free from potential toxins like GMOs, formaldehyde, parabens, synthetic fragrances, silicone, mineral oils, and petrochemicals.  With a wide range of products that target everything from mature skin to acne prone complexions, Mary Si has a selection suited for all.

Not only that, but they are incredibly passionate about formulating, living naturally, and boosting confidence!

"We found earth-loving, environment-romancing, skin-adoring – nutrient-dense ingredients and powerhouses that can also be grown and processed in a sustainable way. These are naturally occurring elements from the belly of the earth that are good for you and for the planet."
I have been testing four of their vegan friendly treatments over the last month, and I'm excited to share my thoughts now that I have had time to fully appreciate the texture, smell, feel, and results of the selection I was sent...

Organic Rose Mist:

"Cleopatra’s favorite Rose Hydrolat balances pH of the skin. It Hydrates and moisturizes the skin. It soothes the skin and reduces inflammation. It aids in healing scars and cuts. It strengthens and regenerate skin cells. It tones the skin, reduces redness and blotchiness. An excellent all natural toner for all skin types."

You all know I adore a good floral water, so of course I was thrilled to get to try out the Organic Rose Mist.  With the delicate slightly sweet and gently floral notes of rose, this hydrosol received my approval pretty much immediately.  It's soft, light, and everything I want from a facial spray!

Mary Si's mist comes out in a super fine spritz, evenly applying across the skin and creating a refreshing and soothing sensation as the rose water falls onto your face.  This is a great product for cooling down, re-energizing, or hydrating, and I find it great for a mid day pick me up or post shower when my face is feeling a bit tight from the warm water.

There is no stickiness left behind either - just revitalized, calmed skin.  It's a lovely product, and one I could see myself using all throughout the summer in particular.  And with the full size being affordable and so generous with the sizing, this a great bargain!  Definitely a fab find, and one I've enjoyed using.

Seaweed & AloeVera Gel:

"Skin Hydrating gel for all skin types. This light non-greasy gel formulations leaves the skin well hydrated without making it greasy."

I struggle with moisturizers, and honestly I'm just not fussed about finding many new ones at this point.  But a gel -- well, that's a whole different story!

Gel formulas are often much better suited for congested and acne prone skin types, so I was intrigued to see how I got on with the Aloe Vera & Seaweed Hydration Gel from Mary Si.  Packed with hydrating ingredients as well as balancing and toning benefits, this treatment certainly has a lot to boast about.

The gel looks gorgeous, with a glossy sheen tinged with gold that is actually pretty mesmerizing.  It's like a translucent copper or a crystal clear lake at dawn as the sun dips across the water - beautiful!  And while the aroma is subtle, it has a calming effect that soothes the spirit and eases tension.  It's a great way to start or end the day, and I find it comforting.

The gel goes on smoothly, transforming into a more liquid state as you massage it in which allows it to absorb almost immediately.  It sinks in fully, and after about thirty seconds you are left with the final results - no tacky or slick residue, just happier, healthier skin!

While I haven't found this nourishing enough during the cold wintery weather (or windy spring days), I think it will be perfect for summer.  Currently, I've been using this as a base (almost like a hydrating serum) and follow up with a facial oil, and I find that really has helped keep my skin feeling totally treated.  It's lightweight, provides a supple look and feel to the face, and helps balance out the oils which is something I need in the warmer months especially.  I love the non-greasy finish, and will be tempted to try this out again when the temperatures rise!

Pomegranate & Pumpkin Anti Aging Serum:

Searching for a highly nourishing, preservative free facial oil that helps regenerate the skin?  Mary Si has created a product for you with their Pomegranate & Pumpkin Anti Aging Serum!  This rich treatment is full of rejuvenating ingredients that boost skin elasticity, stimulate collagen production, and firm and lift the face so you are left looking all the more radiant.

The formula contains a host of oils and extracts, including camellia (with high levels of Vitamin A), free radical fighting baobab, smoothing argan, antioxidant rich grapeseed, toning pumpkin, moisturizing Vitamin E, emollient sunflower, clearing bergamot, balancing geranium, and wrinkle reducing frankincense.  Talk about a power serum!

While I'm not super keen on the scent (a nutty aroma tinged with a lightest hint of relaxing essential oils), I do like how pure it comes across.  It's gentle, healing, and oh so silky!  The oil is fairly heavy, so if you do not have dry or aging skin you only need to use a drop or two.  I find this ideal for overnight rather than day wear, and I love how I wake up to smooth, soft, glowing skin in the mornings.  This is most definitely a treatment that adds a nourishing boost, so if you are in need of a reboot, this is a great formula to try.

Overall, I have been getting along well with Mary Si's Pomegranate & Pumpkin Anti Aging Serum, and have found that it is exactly what my skin needs at the moment.

HydraMask:

I was also lucky enough to get to try out a product that has not yet launched, and while it is too early to tell long-term results (as the sample only had enough for 2 masks), my initial impressions are very favourable!

The HydraMask is a treatment I will be tempted to pick up when the formula officially lands in the Mary Si shop, as I really am drawn to the texture and scent.  Almost fluffy at first, the activated mask reminds me of a whipped butter.  It is airy yet rich, slightly dense while also being breathable, and just so unique that I cannot help but be intrigued by the creation.

On the skin this dries down fairly quickly but it never left my skin feeling tight or uncomfortable, and it rinses away easily.  The smell is a delight, and I found waiting for the treatment to be finished really blissful - it's upfront with lavender, yet contains further florals and grounding elements that make this a truly tranquil experience.

Mary Si Natural Skincare Review

I've really enjoyed trialing the Mary Si range, and I think they have some lovely formulas that can suit a variety of skin types throughout the year.  I particularly enjoyed the rose mist, facial serum, and mask!  All four products I was sent to test were gentle, and I thought they each brought their own special benefits and couldn't help but think the whole set was perfectly tailored to work together to bring harmony to the skin.

Have you tried Mary Si yet?  If not, what product stands out to you most??  I would love to hear your thoughts, and as always feel free to ask me anything -- I'm here to help! xx
