The Sunshine Blogger Award!

Today's post is something very different from usual, and I hope you enjoy getting to know me a little bit better!

I was happily surprised by the lovely Michelle from Completely Chelle with a nomination for The Sunshine Blogger Award last week, and I am so excited to answer all of her fab questions!
The rules:
  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you for the award, and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  3. Nominate 11 new bloggers to receive the award.
  4. Ask your nominees 11 questions.
  5. List the rules and the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post.

Questions I was asked:
  1. How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
  2. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
  3. Name three blogs that you love and tell us why.
  4. Describe yourself in three words!
  5. If you could only have one, which would you give up? Make-up or skincare?
  6. Where is your most favourite place in the world and why?
  7. If you could be a superhero, who would you be and why?
  8. What are five things you would bury in a time capsule and why?
  9. If you could do any job that you wanted, what would you do and why?
  10. What is your favourite song of all time and why?
  11. What advice would you give to a new blogger?

My answers:
1. The ecoLogical started in late 2017, but I only really started blogging seriously in January this year.  I have been passionate about ethical living for as long as I can remember, and practicing a more ethical way of living for over five years now -- my aim for The ecoLogical is to share my knowledge, my thoughts, and my journey with all of you with the hope of making your own a little easier and more enjoyable.  Plus, blogging helps keep me accountable for my own choices every day!

2. Hard one! I would love to be a cat -- boring, I know, but I basically am already a human cat.  I love to sleep, bask in the sun, can never decide if I want in or out, and seek attention/affection at inconvenient moments!
If the oceans weren't so full of plastic and harmful fishing practices, I would also love to spend a day as a sea creature -- strangely enough, this is a huge motivator for me to cut down on plastics, rigorously stick to recycling and up-cycling rules, and be a vocal activist for our oceans.

3. Ethical Unicorn: Francesca keeps me thinking, and keeps me thinking in unique, diverse, and inclusive ways about ethical living.
Beauty Balm: Not only has Sandra been incredibly supportive on my blogging journey, she covers such a vast range of products.  I have discovered so many brands through her blog, and my wishlist has doubled in length since I started following BBalm!
All Ethical: I love this blog because of the sheer range it covers -- there is something for everyone here, and I end up reading about topics I would not necessarily seek out on my own time.

4. Quirky, thoughtful, quaint

5. I would give up make-up, as I only ever wear it when I am going out anyways, whereas skincare is so important for maintaining balanced, healthy cells -- I mean, skin is the largest organ we have, so we should take the very best care of it that we can!

6. I have two:
Tynemouth Abbey and Priory

I visited back in 2013, if visited is what you can call an unplanned discovery.  My friends and I were on a roadtrip (which would end very dramatically when our hostel caught fire in the middle of the night.. but that is a story for another time) and stumbled upon this fascinating, haunting, beautiful seaside location.  The world was just starting to thaw after heavy snows, and we were bundled in full winter garb.  It was the first time in months the sun chose to shine, and it was a magical afternoon.

and
My grandparent's woods when I was growing up, which I sadly don't have many photos of as this was pre-cellphone camera days.  We used to go for walks almost daily through the huge pines, and we would make up fantastic stories about the trees and paths and silence.

7. Sailor Moon -- I lived for this show as a child, and as silly as it sounds, she taught me so many important ideals to hold dear.  Love, justice, kindness, forgiveness, inner strength, loyalty... The list can go on and on!  This post from Bustle says it better than I can right now.

8. I have never thought about this... is it a cop out to say only biodegradable objects in case it never got un-buried?  I suppose I would bury a series of five letters and photographs. A letter to myself, a letter to a stranger, a write-up of current events/statistics (sorry I am boring sometimes!), and two pictures -- of me and my loved ones, and of a local landmark.

9. An equal balance between teaching and blogging is probably my ideal, and is exactly what I am doing at the moment.  However, I will enjoy it much more when my PhD is finished!  I love teaching, and that is partially why I also love blogging.  Having that moment where something clicks for a student, or when they get that 'brain blast' and you can see their confidence grow -- it is truly rewarding.
If I had more of a mind for maths and science, I would have loved to be a marine biologist -- specially one who studies sharks or orcas.  I am fascinated by the sea and by sealife, and I find sharks and orcas have gotten such an undeserved bad reputation.  They are so incredible, and so intriguing, and so intelligent, it would be wonderful to observe and learn about them (and help protect them) every day.

10. I have different favourites for different times.  One that helps me regain positivity is "First Day of My Life" by Bright Eyes.  I also love "This Year" by The Mountain Goats -- it is an anthem to keep going, to never stop, even if you are not sure if you can continue.

11. I mean, I am still a new blogger myself, but my advice would be this:
Be persistent and consistent.  Post every week -- several times every week if possible when starting out.  You need to build up your blog with quality content, and the rest will fall into place after that.  And be passionate -- if you don't love what you are writing about, it probably won't last.

My questions:
1. Why do you blog?
2. What is your favourite book, and why?
3. What do you think is the most pressing ethical issue of today?
4. What is the sweetest thing someone has done for you?
5. What are three new places you would like to visit most, and why?
6. What choices go into making how you select your makeup and skincare products?
7. What are your goals as a content creator this year?
8. You can take three items to a deserted island - what do you pick and why?
9. If you could live in any fictional world, which would it be and why? (ex: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Pokemon, etc.)
10. What is the silliest belief/thought you had as a child?
11. How do you help support the blogging community?
